Lewis Watson Obituary
Lewis Milton Watson, 83, of Bailey died Tuesday. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott McCullar officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Bailey Town Cemetery.
Mr. Watson was a faithful husband for 63 years; a terrific father, grandfather and great-grandfather; a good provider for his family; and a loving, caring brother.
Mr. Watson was owner and operator of Bailey Dry Cleaners until his retirement. He was an active member of Bailey Baptist Church and was an active civic leader. He was the first fire chief of the Bailey Volunteer Fire Department and served in that capacity for 25 years. He was a member of Bailey Masonic Lodge #411, AF & AM, member of Bailey Chapter #159, Order of The Eastern Star, Past Grand Patron of Grand Chapter of NC, O.E.S., and was also active in the Lions Club and the Boy Scouts.
Mr. Watson is survived by his wife, Ruth Hawkes Watson; two daughters, Louise W. Lamm and husband, Wilbur of Bailey, Martha W. Perry and husband, Tim of Bailey;a son, John Watson and wife, Cheryl of Vallejo, CA; two sisters, Marie W. Finch of Zebulon, Margaret W. Blanton of Richmond, VA; two brothers, James Hubert Watson and wife, Lois of Denver, NC, J.K. Watson and wife, Jewel of New Bern; a sister-in-law, Mildred Watson of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Cynthia W. and husband, John Romero of Sacramento, CA, Brent Lamm and wife, Nichole of Raleigh, Travis Perry and wife, Michelle of Mebane, Marci P. Hodges and husband, Brad of Cary; and a great-granddaughter, Haley Elizabeth Perry of Mebane.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vevie Nowell and Clarence Milton Watson,and a brother, Clarence H. Watson.
The family will receive friends 1 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Baptist Church, and at other times the family will be at 12245 Oak Avenue, Bailey.
Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be directed to Bailey Baptist Church, 6646 Deans St, Bailey, NC 27807, or to the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are by Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
