I´m shocked and saddened by this. I served with Luke in Iraq and went to Australia with him. I also ran into him again in Afghanistan. Everyone was drawn to him because he was a great leader and so funny. Great guy.. I´ll miss him.

We just learned of Luke´s passing, and we are speechless. Though we had only met Luke a couple of times since we were close Upstate New York friends of Mike and Kim, he was an amazing spirit! Remembering Lucas will be our way of honoring his legacy.

I met Luke at the Gaston County Courthouse and always admired how he defended his clients during court. His passion for helping those with no voice really resonated with me as I am also a bleeding heart. Luke always made me laugh during our chats on the sidewalk after court. He had the biggest heart and purest soul. I will forever be devastated by his loss, but the legacy he leaves behind will forever be cherished. Sending all my love to those who knew and loved him.

Lucas was the type of friend who flew across the world to spend Christmas and New Year's with you when you were alone. I firmly remember saying to him, It's Christmas Eve so we are wearing suits and ties tonight and and have to go to the street market. "Let's do it" was his reply. You will be forever missed.

Luke was one of the most memorable people I have ever met. He was my CrossFit coach and my friend. He would always make me laugh and was there with a shoulder when I needed him. He was an impeccable judge of character and it breaks my heart to lose him. Luke, I hope there is rest, peace, and love where you are.

I met Luke in the halls of "justice" at the Gaston County Courthouse. He possessed an energy that blazed with genuine altruism that was both refreshing and palpable.
When Luke left the Public Defender's Office in Gaston County, North Carolina
I substituted as counsel for his some of his former clients. More than once, the people he so passionately defended voiced their appreciation of Luke and of how hard he fought for them. Their comments are a testament to Luke's legacy as a soldier for justice.
Godspeed Luke.

I didn't know Luke, however he seems like he was a seriously amazing human being. We who love the most also feel pain the deepest. At times, it seems there are so few of us who strive to help make this world a better place...however Luke was an outstanding example of the few. As a "person in the margins" myself, I get it. I truly do. All my love and prayers to Luke's family.
