Nine years ago tonight, I was hanging out with my lifelong friend, Luke Johnson. I had been fighting with my ex wife. Like I often did at that time, the first person I called was Luke.
We hung out like we always did - smoked some good green, talked about life - our families, girlfriends, mutual friends, and ourselves.
It never mattered what I was going through, when I saw Luke - it was guaranteed that he would have my frown turned upside down, and I would laugh so hard I would need to stop and catch my breath. This night was seemingly no different than any other.
However, this would be the last time I would ever see Luke on this earth again. A week and a half later, he died.
The day he died, he texted me, asking to hang out. How did I respond to that text? I didn´t. I ignored his text, thinking today isn´t a good day. My newly born daughter and my ex wife seemingly needed my attention, and I was too "stressed" to even respond. I didn´t do for him, what he had just done for me.
I think about that a lot, and regretfully wonder if things could have been different had I responded to that text. Would he still be here? Would we still be hanging out? It most definitely weighs heavy on my mind and in my heart.
Don´t ever take for granted the time and moments you have with your friends and family. Any day could be the last.
I knew Luke from the time I was seven years old. So many childhood memories, he is right there beside me. I miss him like a brother, and a lot of lonely nights, I talk to him - in hopes he is out there somewhere listening.
I can´t believe nine years has passed.
If you´re listening right now Luke, I love you man. I will never forget you. I will always keep you in my heart and mind. The ways you helped shape me into the person I am today will never be forgotten.
Despite his short time on this earth, he had an immense positive impact on this world and the people´s lives he touched. In the word of Billy Joel, "only the good die young".
Gone, but never, ever forgotten

Luke is in heaven with Jesus right now. He is at peace. To Luke's family, I'm sorry for not offering my Condolences sooner. I just found out about this today. I guess we've all drifted apart over the years. My prayers are with all of you.

I had the pleasure of knowing Luke for just short of one year. I have many acquaintances in my life, yet not too many friends. Luke was a good friend. This man was real, kind, funny - someone anyone would want to be around. Around people, I knew that he out-did me in looks, personality, you name it - I almost felt socially inferior to how brilliant of a person he was. I wish the best to anybody who had the pleasure of sharing moments with this man, and very much so to the Johnson family. In my mind, Luke has changed the world - and has changed my world. I won't forget him.
Met Luke in San Marcos, Texas while he was doing construction with Ken in the complex I was living in. Tore it up on the basketball court, had many good times.

Luke, you will absolutely be missed by anyone who ever came in contact with you! Your smile lit up the room! It was fun working with you at Lifetime! We always laughed at jokes, and at people. :P You had such a light and fun spirit about you. You never seemed to show any rough days. I read somewhere that they had hoped people told you the nice things while you were still with us so that the first time you heard it wouldn't be on the other side. I hope that was the case, too. You were a real, authentic, fun person. You will be missed!!
