There are no words to express the pain in my heart that I feel tonight when I learned of the passing of Morris Rowland. The only comfort is to know that he is no longer suffering. There are so many memories to share of this "one of a kind man". I was employed by Morris in the early 1980's. His company was MORRIS ROWLAND UTILITY" and Morris was in his 6th year of a company he worked hard to start. Morris was strong, determined to always do the best he could do. He was a kind man, a gentle man, and a generous man. Working for Morris was amazing. Morris Rowland was a well-respected man in his business from the City of Durham, City of Raleigh and all the contractors, Gelder, David & Jones and a dozen more. I was proud to be part of his company. In the winter he kept his crews on payroll when weather would not permit us to work on any of the jobs. The ones that wanted to work, could help him slaughter hogs, make sausage (family recipe), hang hams, make lard, the whole 9 yards. Morris gave us a hog of our own. We all worked together for each other with his beloved mother, Leone. The world was a better place with Morris in it. Morris will always be missed, and remembered for the fine gentleman he was raised to be. Many prayers are coming your way Chris. I am so very sorry about your loss. Much Love, Dottie

There are no words to express the pain in my heart I feel tonight, knowing Morris Rowland has passed. The comfort is knowing that he is no longer suffering. Working for Morris in the early 1980's for his company "MORRIS ROWLAND UILITY" was amazing. I never knew if I would be on my way to Charlotte at 3:00 a.m. picking up valves or at Pump & Lighting picking up what the crews needed at any given moment or Adams Concrete picking up manholes on the dump truck. No two days were ever the same. So many things were involved in his business. Just getting permits for water taps when there might be 100 or more at a time. This was so time consuming. Looking back I can see now how I saved him so much time. Morris was hard on the people that he cared about. He was hard on me but being a woman in this business, he wanted me to excel. Morris was always a gentleman, a great boss, and a mentor. He went on a fishing trip to Florida in 1985, for a whole week, he told me to meet him at his home and keep his truck for him. He said: "DO NOT MOVE THE SEAT BACK". Morris was 6'4" and I was 5'4". I never put the seat back and a whole week went by-a long week of stretching to reach the petals. The RTP job (Imperial Center) Northern Telecom & ending with the Sheraton on that contract was about 2 years more or less. Morris had worked hard to get where he was and he was strong in his business sense. Morris only had one son, Chris. Morris was so proud of Chris always. Chris was in high school when I was employed by Morris. Morris & I talked through the years, many times after his transplant but more in the last 3 years. We both were supporting each other fighting cancer last year and now - telling each other fight "DON'T EVER GIVE UP". Morris believe me was a "ONE OF A KIND" He cared really cared about his family and friends. Morris Rowland you will be missed, RIP my dear friend. (Chris, my prayers go out to you & all your family). Much LOVE, Dottie West

Sorry to hear of Mr. Rowland's passing. I worked for his utility company many, many years ago during my Sr. year of high school. Mr. Rowland was always a nice man and he worked hard. I was proud to have worked for him. My condolences to all of his family.
