Philip R. Coggin, Sr.

Philip Ray Coggin, Sr., age 79, of the 500 block of Lakeview Drive, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at his home.
Mr. Coggin was born on November 21, 1931, in Halifax County, a son of the late Lee Oliver and Emma Lou McGregor Coggin. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie and was owner of Phil Coggin Insurance Agency, Inc. in Ahoskie.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Alice Jeans Coggin of the home; his daughters, Wanda C. Woodford and husband, Bill of Liberty, NC, and Sharon C. Cox of Greensboro, NC; his son, Philip Ray Coggin, Jr. of Liberty, NC; three grandchildren, Brandy Woodford, Daniel Cox and Ally Coggin; and two great grandchildren, Carmen and Mitchell Hedrick. Besides his parents, Phil was predeceased by three brothers, Ben, Ezell, and Leamon Coggin.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home in Ahoskie on Monday, May 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Croom officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Nashville, NC, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Coggin's memory to Baptist Children's Homes of NC, Britton Ministries, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC, 27360; or to the Ahoskie Public Library, 210 E. Church St., Ahoskie, NC, 27910.
