R. Lackey Obituary

Mr. R. Otis Lackey, 88, of the Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh, died Saturday, May 28, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Lackey was born May 20, 1917 in Burke County, NC. He was the son of the late J. Eston and Fannie Warlick Lackey. He received BS and MS Degrees from North Carolina State University. He was Assistant Manager for Melville Dairy and following several mergers, retired from Flavorich Dairy in Greensboro, NC as District Sales Manager. Mr. Lackey served four years in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Aleutian Islands and South Pacific aboard Net Tenders and was honorably discharged at the end of World War II with the rank of Lieutenant. Mr. Lackey was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as Deacon, Elder and Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Lackey has served as President of the Burlington Jaycees, member of the Burlington City School Board, President of the Burlington/Alamance Chamber of Commerce, member of the YMCA Board of Directors and member of the Memorial and Alamance Regional Hospital Board of Directors.
Mr. Lackey is survived by his wife; Barbara C.Lackey, of the Springmoor Retirement Community, Raleigh, NC; sons, Stephen D. Lackey and wife Ahshun, of Broomes Island, MD, and Dr. John E. Lackey and wife Cindy, of Burlington, NC; daughters, Julia L. Zinkel and husband Robert, of Apex, NC, and Nancy L. Pate and husband Dr. C. Daniel Pate, Jr., of Beulaville, NC; 11 grandchildren; sister, Aurelia Greer, of Raleigh, NC and brother, Dr. Donald Lackey, of Lenoir, NC.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church, 508 W. Davis St., Burlington, NC 27215.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, 508 W. Davis St., Burlington, NC 27215 or to Springmoor Endowment Fund, 1500 Sawmill Dr., Raleigh, NC 27615.
Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
