Robert Braxton Flye died at home on May 14, 2004.
He was born in Pinetops, NC, Edgecombe County on January 19, 1923 to the late William Woodson and Florence Corbett Flye.
He attended Battleboro High School, NC State University, and while with the Army Specialist Training Corps, attended the University of Delaware and completed his pre- dental education at Princeton University. He served in the US Army Infantry and Medical Corp. from 1943 to 1945.
Braxton was a founding member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher.
He was owner and President of The Graphic Press, Inc., which he sold to Edwards Bros., book printers in 1979. He continued as Sales Manager until his retirement. He was Publisher and Editor of the N.C. Coastal Fishing and Vacation Guide for 20 years and was owner of Eastern Advertising Agency.
He held leadership positions in many organizations, serving as President of The Printing Industry of the Carolinas, Inc. and Printing Industries of America, Inc., President of Raleigh Presbyterian Council, President of Wake County Cancer Society and for 26 years, President of Milburnie Fishing Club, retiring in 2001. Also he served as Secretary of Raleigh Sales Executives Club and on the Board of Directors of the Raleigh Salvation Army. After retiring, he was a volunteer with Wake Council on Aging.
He is survived by a daughter, Margaret Willis and her husband, Roger of Raleigh; sisters, Estelle Rose and her husband, Sonny of Roswell, GA, Ann Baker and Husband Cecil of Lake Gaston, NC, Kay Gurganus and husband, Joe of Nashville, NC; and brother, Bruce and wife, Jean of Battleboro, NC; special niece, Beth Flye of Evanston, IL as well as several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Beck (Becky), son, Robert Braxton. Jr., (Robbie) brother William (Bud) Flye of Columbia, SC and sister, Eleanor Lanier of Rocky Mount, NC.
A service in celebration of his life will be held at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, Oberlin Road, Raleigh, Monday May 17th at 2:00 pm. following a private entombment at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church in the Jane Bell Gathering Place. At other times, the family will be at the home of Margaret and Roger Willis, 2623 Oberlin Rd, Raleigh, NC.
