Rosemary Nahm Obituary

Rosemary Andrews Nahm

April 16, 1946 - June 19, 2025

San Antonio, Texas - Rosemary "Mary" Lang Andrews Nahm passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by family. Born April 16, 1946, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Mary was the only child of educators Sam and Roses Andrews. She was known for her intelligence, quick wit, deep devotion to her family, and a warm, steadfast spirit that touched every chapter of her life.

Mary graduated from Oxon Hill High School in Maryland in 1964, later earning her nursing degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, with clinical training at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She went on to receive her Master of Science in Nursing from Duke University in 1981.

Mary built a lifelong career dedicated to nursing, administration, and research. She raised her two children in Wilson, North Carolina, where she worked as a nurse and later moved into administration at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount. In the early 2000s, she joined Duke Clinical Research Institute and later the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, retiring in 2012. Working alongside her daughter, Meredith, at DCRI was a source of deep pride.

Mary had a keen eye for home design, a love of antiques inherited from her mother, and a lifelong appreciation for beautiful spaces. One of her greatest joys was designing her home in Fuquay-Varina, a project that inspired her son, Eric, to become a home builder. She loved tending to her orchids, reading thrillers, following politics, and dining out with family and friends.

Throughout her life, Mary cherished summers spent at White Lake, North Carolina, a tradition begun in childhood with her parents and carried on with her own children. She delighted in family stories and time spent surrounded by cousins, aunts, and uncles.

She also had a lifelong love of animals. Her beloved pets included her childhood Saint Bernard, Brandywine Alpine; family dog, Fluffy; her cats Peaches and Cream, Pyewacket, and Charles Dickens; and her sweet rescue cat, Pita, who remained by her side.

Mary's greatest joy came later in life, when she moved with Meredith's family, first to Little Rock, then to San Antonio, and became "Gran" to her cherished grandchildren, Jessica and Atticus Zozus. They were the light of her life, and she delighted in watching them grow, always believing they hung the moon.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel J. Andrews, Jr. and Rosemary "Roses" Peterson Andrews. She is survived by her daughter, Meredith Zozus (Bob) of San Antonio, TX, and her son, Eric Andrews (Ashley) of Pittsboro, NC; her adored grandchildren, Jessica and Atticus Zozus; her dear friends Marcia and Katherine; and her beloved cat, Pita.

A private graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 26 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Temple Hills, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Duke School of Nursing Annual Fund in Memory of Rosemary Nahm https://www.gifts.duke.edu/annualfund?designation=1131040.

Ms. Mary- you will be so missed. I have so many memories of going to Parade of Homes with you, Eric and my mom. Or even just coming over to sit on your couch, play hide-and-seek with the cats and to eat all of your popsicles. May your sweet soul rest in peace. You were the best neighbor. You will be missed.
With love,
Nadine

Ah, Mary, where did the time go? Meeting in 1977 as "older" nursing students with your adorable children, Meredith and Eric, patiently hanging with us in the student union seems like yesterday. And with GOD's help we graduated! I'm humbled by your wonderful intellect and the impressive career you went on to make. I have been honored and blessed by your precious friendship these 48 years - half a lifetime. Dearest, dearest Friend, the only comfort I take is knowing that you are in a place that meets your wonderful standards of elegance, beauty and grace - Heaven. Much love to you there and to your babies Meredith, Eric, Jessica, Atticus and little Pita who will miss you so.
Love, Marcia
