I had not seen Ames in quite a few years but we worked together on the Miss NC Scholarship Pageant in the early 1990's. He had such a witt about him and made everyone smile & laugh. He will be greatly missed. My deepest condolensces to Bill, his family and friends.

Although we only met once, I could tell he was a very special man by the company he kept. I pray peace and comfort for all his loved ones who I'm sure miss him dearly.

Ames was a wonderful neighbor and great friend to my parents. He was thoughtful and loving. His efforts to make Oakwood and the world a better place will always be remembered and appreciated. I will always remember sitting in the music room listening to him playing the piano while I petted Toes. And who could forget the garden? My love to you Bill and may you have brighter days. Thanks for looking after Ames so well the last few years.

I am sad to learn of the loss of a dear friend and colleague. Ames brought to the Commission of Indian Affairs outstanding expertise and background in operating employment and training programs which benefitted many NC Indian communities across the state. Ames was a fine person and this is a sad loss for all of us.

Thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of loss of Ames. He was a co-worker/supervisor and friend during his time with the NC Commission of Indian Affairs. His professionalism was to be admired. I will miss his cards and notes at "Christmas".

Ames was accompanist for the N.C. State Varsity Mens Glee Club when I was conductor (1959-1967). He was always prepared and ready to fill the important role of accompanist. His talents were many as were his contributions to all the many performances of the group. Rest in Peace, Ames.

I truly learned a lot from Ames' professionalism and expertise. Ames initially hired me in state government, as a field office workforce development program representative with the North Carolina Commission of Indian Affairs. Ames was a wise and compassionate individual, an excellent manager, and really thought a lot of my reference to my father (who was about the same age as him) as "my old man." It always made him smile, and he would remind me that he (and my dad too) wasn't really an "old man." Ames was well respected and loved.

Ames, I will miss your wonderful smile, and friendly wave. I am thankful that I was priviledged to hear you playing the piano, and was able to witness how you loved it so.
Bill, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Carolann

Ames came to Franklin when I was in the Second Grade and we went all
the way through High School together. He was a very fine guy.
