David Beglan Obituary

David F. Beglan
David F. Beglan of Roxbury, CT, passed suddenly and unexpectedly at age 81 on Monday October 30, 2017.
David was born in Flushing, NY, on July 26, 1936 to the late John and Francis (Rehn) Beglan. He was predeceased by his wife Elaine (Gancoss) Beglan.
David was a lifelong electrician, running a successful business in Roxbury for well over 50 years. There is scarcely a house in the Roxbury area that did not have a Roxbury Electric sticker on their electrical panel at one time or another. David was also instrumental in forming what would eventually become the Roxbury Land Trust, serving on the board of directors as well as president of that organization on multiple occasions. His tireless work in obtaining the funding which enabled the Trust to procure the Mine Hill preserve and many other land preserves is legend in itself. He remained active in the Trust as the Historian and gave his time freely to the betterment of Roxbury as a whole to the very end. Roxbury First Selectman Barbara Henry states, "David did more for the Town of Roxbury than most people would know."He loved to travel and could tell enough historical stories to fill a book or three. He served on many Roxbury boards and commissions, including Board of Finance, Zoning Commission, Planning Commission and Civilian Defense.
David leaves behind his loving companion of many years, Mary Conseur. He also leaves three children: David J. Beglan of Jacksonville, FL, Susan (Fenner) Brownell of Happy Valley, OR, and Janet (Daniel) Sassin of Sarasota, FL. David had nine grandchildren: Kerri, Karli, Kyle and Korey Beglan of FL, Caleb, Hollis, Tyler Brownell and Lauren (George) Waldrop of OR, as well as three great-grandchildren in Oregon. He leaves brothers John Beglan of West Windsor, NJ, Joseph Beglan of Hampstead, MD and sisters Margaret Murphy of Yucca Valley, CA and Kathleen Pielli of New Milford, CT. He was predeceased by his grandson Kameron Beglan and brother Eugene Beglan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 4, 2017 at 10:00 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Washington, CT. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Roxbury, CT. A wake will be held at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT, on Friday November 3, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's memory may be made to The Roxbury Land Trust, 6 Mine Hill Road, P.O. Box 51, Roxbury, CT 06783.
