Steven Golembeski Obituary

Steven Dennis Golembeski
Aug 28, 1942-Aug 24, 2018
Denny Golembeski recently passed away peacefully in his sleep with his loving wife Annette Golembeski and family by his side. Denny had a long battle over a 14-year span defeating Cancer, then finally succumbing to pneumonia and other complications over a 38-day struggle at Danbury Hospital.
Denny is survived by his loving wife, Annette; they recently celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary on August 12, 2018. He is also survived by his sons, Keith and Kevin Golembeski, their wives – Marianne and Colleen and three grandchildren: Kara, Karli and Jason. Denny is also survived by a loving sister and brother In-law Jean and Leroy Thompson of Watertown, CT along with many beautiful nieces and wonderful nephews. Denny is also survived by his sister-in-law Katherine Golembeski and predeceased by his brother Walt Golembeski along with his mother Mary Elizabeth Golembeski and father Walter Golembeski.
Denny was a great family man, loving husband, fantastic father and adoring grandfather. He was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier and Our Lady of the Lakes Roman Catholic Parishes.
Denny worked very hard from the time he was 16 years old up until his retirement at 70 years old. He was employed as Store Manager at FINEST-First National Stores throughout CT and NY before opening his own Convenience Store & Deli – "Denny's Market" in New Milford. He also worked at Bradlees, Diamond Lumber and most recently at Ring's End in New Milford. He touched many lives during his employment, and his skills for store displays and decorations were so renowned that his services were requested for multiple stores within Bradlees and Ring's End.
Denny was very handy with carpentry and electrical and helped build his own house as well as helping out with his sons' houses. During his retirement he developed a hobby for building custom sports motif Bird Houses.
Denny had many interests, among them Sports, Music, Movies and watching TV. He was one of the first owners of a Satellite Dish in order to watch his favorite sports teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Dallas Cowboys, play on TV. His other interests were bird watching, gardening - just look at the flowers around his home - and Christmas decorations.
Denny was passionate about his favorite sports teams including the Brooklyn and aforementioned Los Angeles Dodgers and Dallas Cowboys as well as New York Knicks and UCONN Huskies. Denny loved listening to music and singing along with his favorite artists, in particular Elvis Presley. He was blessed to be able to travel with his sons and grandson to watch the Dallas Cowboys play at both Texas Stadium and (Cowboy – "AT&T" Stadium just recently in 2016). He was also able to see the LA Dodgers play the NY Mets at Citi-Field on Sunday June 24, 2018.
Denny was a prolific Slow Pitch Softball Player, playing over 42 years in New Milford, Danbury, Waterbury and Brewster. He played with so many wonderful teammates over this span for numerous championship teams.
In New Milford: Hulton's Tavern, New Milford Bank & Trust, Hulton's Electric, Video Movie Corner, Remember When and Kimberly-Clark. In Danbury for Bauer & Sons and MJM. Denny was also a great Coach and Umpire, and he was a 9-time Fantasy Football Champ over his League's 30-year span. Denny was a volunteer Baseball and Softball Coach and he coached his sons and grandchildren.
He will be missed by all of the people he touched throughout his life and he is greatly appreciative of having had an opportunity to know and love all of his friends and family.
Calling hours will be held at Lillis Funeral Home located at 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT 06776 on Wednesday August 29th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday August 30th at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish located at 3 Old Town Park Road, New Milford, CT 06776. Dear Annette, Keith, Kevin and family.
Denny was the best of what New Milford has been about for so many years: hard-working, caring, respectful, good-humored and kind.

I will always cherish my friendship with Denny. I suspect I share that sentiment with the countless others Denny graced with his warm smile.

My sincere sympathies, my friends. He will will always be with you in your hearts.
With love,
Norm

Annette, my deepest sympathy is with you and your family on the loss of Denny. You two were an outstanding couple from high school days and you both hold a warm spot in my high school memories. It was good to see you at our reunions and I can still see Denny cutting the rug on the dance floor. May God's peace be with you and wonderful memories bring comfort.

Dear Annette, Keith & Kevin,

So sorry for your loss. Denny will be missed for sure. He was always the life of the party. When I think of him, I can picture him being the first one on the dance floor. He was always so happy and was there to offer a hug. There was even a time when he was my boss at Bradles. He was a wonderful boss. Even when I overslept and was late opening the store. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My Condolences to all in Denny's family. I mostly played softball against him but a couple times with him and enjoyed knowing a very classy man on and off the field. Ann worked with him at Bradlees and remembers a smiling face every day.

I would like to send my Condolences to the Entire Golembeski Family.

I worked at the First National Store in Bethel for my 4 years in High School. Denny was my Store Manager. I can honestly say, that Denny was a very Honest & Fair Boss.
It was a pleasure working for him. I have many great stories about Denny. That I will never forget. I decided to grow a beard one day. And of course it was against the Union Rules back in the 70's. But Denny let me keeo my beard. When he found out the Union Leaders were comming into the store. He would give me a warning, And I would hide in the Back Stock Room until they left. I actually did that for the last 2 years I worked there. It was great!! I will also remember his 70/71 brand new Chevy Monte Carlo. It was Orange with a Tan Interior. And was the Hottest Car in town at the time. Denny was a pleasure to work with.
And being a young man starting out in the "Working World". I will always remember Denny as one of the best bosses I have had throught out my working years. I am glad to see he had a good life. And most important. I am sure he was a Great Husband & Father.

He will be missed to all who know him.
And all of the people he has touched in his life.
