Jack L. Hayes Jr., 59, of Geneseo, passed away on February 27, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. After a 10 year battle with cancer, he is finally at peace with our heavenly father. A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 PM on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Geneseo Chapel with a memorial service directly following at 3:00 PM. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Pastor Scott Kochuyt will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to his family towards selected charities. Condolences can be left at
www.vandemorefuneralhome.com Jack was born in Mendota, IL, on September 18, 1965, the son of Jack Hayes Sr. and Linda (Worsley) Jauch. He graduated from Earlville High School and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years during Desert Storm and the Army for 8 years during Iraq Freedom. After serving in the Army, he went on to complete his bachelor's in engineering and later completed his master's in public administration. He is survived by his wife Tanya (Simpson) Hayes, who he married on October 22, 2011. Jack was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs as a veteran service officer for the state of Illinois. He also worked for the Army as a civilian as a cost price analyst at the Rock Island Arsenal where he later retired. He attended Heritage Church of Rock Island and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed watching his favorite television programs, Wheel of Fortune and Star Trek. Some of his hobbies included woodworking, remodeling and being outdoors. You could often find him reading a good book, playing chess, and spending time with his family, grandchildren and his church family.
Those left to cherish his memory are loving wife, Tanya Hayes of Geneseo, adopted son, Trace Hayes of Sandwich, IL, stepdaughter, Chaney (Bryan) Dixon of Granville, IL, father, Jack (Gloria) Hayes Sr. of Depue, IL, brothers; Dave Hayes of Depue, Jason (Lana) Hayes of Depue and Ernest E. Jauch of Princeton, IL, sister, Christine (Doug) Kessinger of Dover, IL, grandchildren; Joslyn, Greyson and Xander, mother-in-law, Rebecca Haywood and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda K. Jauch, stepfather, Ernest L. Jauch, grandfather, Ross G. Worsley, grandmother, Ruth (Stanley) Olsen, Gladys (Raymond) Hayes and stepson, Cameron Fandel.
