Kenneth Wenzel Obituary

Kenneth "Ken" Wenzel
Born: April 30, 1939 in Spring Valley, IL
Died: October 23, 2024 in Mendota, IL
On October 23, 2024, Kenneth "Ken" Wenzel peacefully entered the arms of his Savior, surrounded by his three cherished daughters. Born on April 30, 1939, in Spring Valley, Illinois, to Earl and Leah (Bulli) Wenzel, Ken's life was a testament to hard work, creativity, and a deep love for family.
Ken was a lifelong farmer and dedicated iron worker millwright. His work ethic was matched only by his creativity and sense of humor. Known for his whimsical yard art, he delighted many and even caught the attention of the local newspaper which featured "The Wonderful World of Wenzel."
Ken had a passion for fishing, traveling to Wisconsin, the occasional trip to the casino and tending to his garden. His family was his greatest treasure-he never missed a birthday, family event, or gathering. He had an uncanny ability to turn every occasion into a cherished memory, ensuring that laughter and love filled the air.
After graduating from LP High School, Ken served honorably in the Illinois National Guard for eight years.
In the kitchen, Ken could often be found experimenting with new recipes from his vast collection of cookbooks. He delighted in sharing his creations during family gatherings.
Ken leaves behind his daughters: Roz (Bill) Leopold, Terri Cyrocki, and Amy (Don) Noy; his sister, Cheryl (Dave) Heath; and brother, Jerry Wenzel. He was a proud grandfather to Janelle Brown, Ashley Leopold, Reed Leopold, Crystal Cyrocki, Greg Cyrocki, Kelsey Kinkin, Alec Noy and a cherished great-grandfather to 15 and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by his long time companion Diane Schlesinger.
He was welcomed in heaven by his granddaughter, Carly Leopold, his parents, brother Aaron Neureuther and the mother of his children Shirley Smith.
As we remember Ken, we celebrate a life filled with his humor, generosity and love for family and friends.
Please join us for a Celebration of Ken's Life. Saturday, November 2 from 3-7:00 PM at Holy Trinity Hall in Cherry where he danced many a night at the drawdowns. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or donors choice.

Ken was a great guy, I worked with his on turn arounds at Ill Cement. He was always smiling and cracking jokes.
