Richard Tremblay Obituary

Richard F. Tremblay, 85

DOVER - Richard F. Tremblay of Dover, formerly of Glens Falls, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, in Dover, after a long illness. He was 85.

Mr. Tremblay was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Glens Falls, son of the late Francis and Grace (Cilley) Tremblay.

He was a 1938 graduate of Glens Falls High School.

Mr. Tremblay was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Europe and the Asiatic Pacific. He was discharged with the rank of master sergeant, and received a Bronze Star for action in Europe. In 1961, he joined the New York Guard and rose to the rank of major before retiring in 1969. He was a member of the Dover Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He worked as a carpenter and projects superintendent on many well-known buildings in and around the Glens Falls and Capital District area, most notably Storytown, Gaslight Village, Tiki Motel, Sun Castle and the renovation of the Sagamore Hotel. In the Capital District he worked on the addition to the Albany VA Hospital Radiation Department, Gilboa Blenheim Dam, the Albany Telephone Co. and the state police headquarters building.

Mr. Tremblay and his wife raised 32 foster children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Tremblay; and two sisters, Barbara Fish and Marilyn Whelan.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen (Corlew) Tremblay; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Louis and Karen Tremblay of Hookset, N.H., and Christopher Tremblay of Dover; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy Sawyer of Glens Falls and Carol and Leon Sawn of Dover; two brothers and a sister-in-law, the Rev. Nellis J. Tremblay of Kattskill Bay, N.Y., and William and Mary Lou Tremblay of Glens Falls; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday in St. Alphonsus Church, Broad Street, Glens Falls. The Rev. Nellis Tremblay will officiate.

Burial was in Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury, N.Y.
