Charles Coles Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Coles, 77
Charles "Chuck" Coles went to his heavenly home on April 31, 2021. His family & friends will miss his caring, fun, and wise ways.
Early jobs included being a waiter at the Westchester Country Club and serving the Kennedy family. After graduation from high school in NY, Chuck went to Oneonta College in NY for his B.A. and M.A.Ed. There he met and married his love, Carol, in a marriage 54 years strong. While in New York State, he worked as a teacher, had a mobile home service business and even cleaned the inside of milk trucks! They moved to Okeechobee in 1970, when their young son, Chip, needed winter warmth to survive. He decided to teach at the Okeechobee "Boys' School", where he taught various levels, always seeking for his students to have a positive, realistic, and wiser outlook. Next he became a Social Services Worker, first in Juvenile Justice, followed by Foster Care and Adult & Aging. Daughter, Kelley, was born and made it a family of four. In working with the State of Florida, he became involved in establishing the union in Okeechobee and represented them in Tallahassee. During the Adult & Aging time, he also went to Tallahassee to help correct a gap problem that made getting financial help difficult for clients.
Chuck was a member of the First Baptist Church and was baptized there. Recently, he became a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Okeechobee Chapter. He loved to read history, western and science fiction books, as well as play card games with the locals, and poker online.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Carol Coles of Okeechobee, FL; son, Chip (Janet) Coles; daughter, Kelley Margerum; grandchildren, Joseph Coles, Alexis (Jarred) Morgan, Alec & Charlie Muller; brother, Ross (Linda) Coles; and sister, Charlotte (Larry) Lawrence.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Rolston & Estelle Stainton Coles and sister, June Coles.
The family has had a Celebration of Life. Memorial donations to the First Baptist Church of Okeechobee or the Sons of the American Revolution, Okeechobee Chapter, are much appreciated. Blessings and thanks to family and friends.
All arrangements are entrusted to the direction and care of the Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home, Okeechobee, Florida.

Dear Carol and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Chucks passing. What a good man he was. We didn´t know him well, but one day in 1992 while walking Peaks Island with a 5 and 7 year old, the kids started unraveling from heat and fatigue. Just then, Chuck came by and asked if we´d like a ride!! Well, he not only gave us a ride, but he gave us a tour of Peaks Island and explained its history!!
We enjoyed that trip so much that we went home to Fl. And booked our next trip. We ended up owning a home on the island for 23 years after meeting that nice man , Chuck Coles.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all today.
In sympathy,
Liz and Tim Williams
