Anthony DeLuca Obituary

Anthony DeLuca
Anthony DeLuca, formerly of West Haven, age 85, passed away at home in North Haven, CT, surrounded by his loving family on February 14, 2025. Anthony was the son of the late Vincenzo DeLuca and Anastasia Avellino, born in Pozzuoli, Italy, on March 8, 1939. In 1967, he met and married the love of his life in Ponza, Italy. He was a devoted husband, father, Nonno, brother, and friend to many.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mirella DeLuca, and his children, Anastasia (Stacey) LeBeau (Greg), Vincenzo (Vinny) DeLuca (Stephanie), and Assunta (Susie) DeLuca-Bachman. He was forever proud of his family, especially his grandchildren, and being known as their Nonno, Preston, Jaden, Alexandria, Gregory and Cecelia. He was predeceased by his brother, Antimo DeLuca. He also leaves behind his loving four-legged companion, Oreo, who will miss him dearly.
Raised on the island of Ponza, Italy, he first came to the United States in 1956 and learned various trades. He spent 15 years as a butcher and realized his calling was in the restaurant industry. He quickly learned the necessary skills to graduate from butcher to chef, working in many local Italian restaurants (Danny's Expresso, Dante's and other restaurants on Wooster Street), creating culinary delights for well over 30 years. For Anthony, food was love --"Mangia, Mangia!"
In his spare time, he enjoyed being a member of the San Silverio Shrine and the many events they hosted. He found enjoyment in the simple things in life: reading the NY Post each morning for his news source, walking along the West Haven beaches, watching the Italian Channel, and spending hours in the garden growing the freshest produce. He was also well-known for his homemade wine which he made annually and gifted to friends and family. One of Anthony's other passions was horse racing, although he was never a big winner, he loved going to Saratoga Springs, OTB and Sports Haven to see the races.
Anthony will be remembered for his kind heart, his loyalty to his family and friends, his warm smile, his sharp wit and his love of food shopping (always examining the flyers for the best deals) and cooking.
The visiting hours will be Tuesday, Feb. 18th, at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, from 4pm-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, Feb. 19th, at 12pm at St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Avenue, North Haven. Entombment will take place at All Saints Mausoleum, 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven.
