Bruce Sturman Obituary

Bruce A. Sturman
Bruce A. Sturman, 72, of Killingworth passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 19, 2023. Born on June 10, 1951, in Waterbury, CT, Bruce was the son of the late Dr. Robert Harries Sturman, Gloria Laverne Weyand.
Bruce graduated from Choate Prepartory School in Wallingford, CT class of 1969. Bruce was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, class of 1973. He completed his education at the New England School of Law in Boston, MA graduating in 1978. Bruce spent his entire career, spanning 37 years, in public service; first in New Haven, CT and then as Chief Public Defender for New London County until his retirement in 2016. Bruce married his wife, the love of his life, Lynda Holland on October 11, 1991. They shared 32 long, happy years together; creating a home and family that became their greatest joys. Bruce was an avid Mets, Red Sox, and New England Patriots fan. He was most relaxed near the ocean and loved spending time at his vacation homes on Nantucket and the Florida Keys.
As well as his parents, his Stepfather, Dr. John Standard, and stepbrother, David Standard, predeceased him. Bruce will be greatly missed by his wife, Lynda, and his 3 children Reed of Hamden, CT, Hannah of Middletown, CT and Matthew of Killingworth, CT as well as his grandson Maverick. Brothers, Peter (Eileen) Tonto Verde, AZ, Everett "Rett (Cathy) Morrisville VT, Jeffrey (Dori) Williams, AZ, 5 stepsiblings Deborah Standard of New York City, Sally Peters of Suffield, CT, John Standard of Hawaii, Janet Standard of New York City and Robert Standard of Hawaii.
Bruce was a kind, gentle, and loving man with a heart of gold. If he could have left parting words, I know they would be "Be Safe Be Kind".
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 29,2023 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home located at 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison, CT 06443. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bruce's name to The Innocence Project at 40 Worth Street Suite 701, New York, NY 10013.

So sorry to all of Bruces's family of his passing. He was an amazing coworker back at the day in New Haven. He was not only very intelligent but so kind and so much fun. So many of us always enjoyed his diligence, humor and kindness .Such good times when we were so young. When he got married and had a great family he could not be prouder. Was always so nice to his love for his family! My deepest condolences to all. Chris Ososki
