Francis O'Connor Obituary

Francis J. O'Connor
His family and his legion of friends lost a generous, considerate, and kind-hearted man, Francis (Frank) James O'Connor, on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026, at Connecticut Hospice. Frank was born on Nov. 11, 1942, the oldest child of Francis Timothy O'Connor and Eileen Fitzpatrick O'Connor, who predeceased him; as did his brother, Thomas Timothy. He is survived by his sister, Patricia of Branford; his sister-in-law, Starr of Hamden; and his niece, Kathleen (Katie) of Boston. In addition, Hundreds of friends will miss his warmth and grace. Our lives will be emptier. Frank graduated from Notre Dame High School and Providence College. He went on to earn his master's in social work from UConn. He spent his life helping others. During his career, he served as the assistant director of Social Work at Bridgeport Hospital and then in the Yale-New Haven Hospital Clinics; he ended his career as a social worker for the New Haven Public Schools. He was also an adjunct professor at the University of New Haven. Frank had a remarkable talent for friendship; he kept in touch with dozens of people he met throughout his life, from his career and travels to the various places he had lived, including England and Omaha, Nebraska. A longtime resident of Longmeadow Condominiums in Milford, he knew almost everyone there; some of the residents affectionately called him "the Mayor." He always had a smile and often, a joke or humorous remark to share. He loved the theater. Just six weeks ago, Frank attended several Broadway performances, thoroughly enjoying each. He would gather extra playbills to share with friends. He delighted in telling people that, as a child, he had studied Irish Step Dancing; occasionally, you could persuade him to demonstrate. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:00am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. Visitation at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, will be Tuesday morning prior to the Funeral Mass from 9:30-10:30am. It was because of Frank that I received 3 dancing Irish medals during my young years befor Irish dancing became what it is today. He was my dancing partner for the 3 hand real and the 4 hand real. And made me the dancer I was in those days. I loved him and will love him forever. He certainly was one of the kind - great personality and wonderful person from a wonderful family. The Sullivan family will remember him forever. We have several photos of those days. Keep me in your heart as I will keep you in mind. RIP to the O'Connor's who know have their Irish dancer in heaven to entertain them all, RIP Frank, Eileen and Timmy! Our sincerest sympathy to Pat, Eileen Sullivan and Ed Donadio

My sister and I grew up in Longmeadow a long time ago and our dad still lives there. He and Frank were friends and neighbors and we enjoyed visiting with Frank pretty much whenever we visited our dad. Frank was a kind, smart, and funny man and he will be missed by many.

Frank and I moved into Longmeadow 50 years ago. Words cannot express the profound loss to our community. Frank participated in our social events, local nonprofit events, annd entertained us daily at the pool with wonderful stories and intelligent discussions. He was a joy in every way, and there are lessons to be learned from Frank´s kindness and sincere love of others. Saying I will miss him is an understatement.
