I've been friends with Hy's son Stu for many years and saw Hy in action as Red Eye's the Clown at many of the .U.S.Transplant games I worked with Stu doing a/v/ work. Th smiles and comfort he brought to those kids who were suffering the ill fate of a failing organ was priceless. May he rest in peace. My sincere condolence to Mrs. Katz and Stu.

My condolences to Hy's family on his passing. Having lived in the Westville section of New Haven for many years, I enjoyed going to his restaurant if for nothing else than his meatloaf dinner. Still the best I ever ate.I remember him playing basketball at the JCC with my uncle Gerry Greene and his friendship with my dad Lou who was a mason, at Cosmopolitan Lodge.

Our streets are unsafe, our highways impassable, but under our arms we have complete protection!
This was one of Hy's joke of the day/week.
Hy's memory will be for a blessing.

I am sorry to hear about Hy's passing. I worked side-by-side with him for several years in the early 90's at Ables Delicatessen and Joshua's Restaurant in Orange. He couldn't have made my days any brighter. We worked hard and laughed hard. He and I accepted an award for the restaurant at the Eli Whitney Museum one year and as we walked through the venue I don't believe there was a person there that didn't know Hy. He was one of a kind with the kindest heart.

We were so sad to hear about Hy's death. I so often look across the street at your' sweet house and think of the countless times we saw Hy in full clown regalia getting into the van with Karol ready to drive him to some event.

I grew up in Westville and enjoyed going to the diner that Herman and his wife owned. My maiden name is Lamarche. Then I married my husband who became a mason. Hy as we referred to him was a clown and we also bowled with him. He will greatly be missed.

I knew him and my deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Herman. May the comfort of our heavenly father who is our Rock & Stronghold give you peace and in this time of grief. He is our shield and the God of refuge. Psalms 18:2. Sincerely, JR
