James Ardito Obituary

James L. Ardito
Entered into rest Feb.13, 2024, James L. Ardito, 80; husband of Caroline Gargano Ardito of North Branford; proud father of Gabriel (Gianna) Ardito and Margaret (Mathew) Calkins; also survived by his granddaughters, Eva Ardito and Madison, Mia and Margaret (Marnie) Calkins, who were the absolute love of his life. Other survivors include a brother-law, Frank A. "Butch" (Carolyn) Gargano, nephew, John (Elaine) Ardito, and a niece, Carolyn Cocco; predeceased by a brother, John Ardito, and a sister, Margaret Iaccarino. Born in New Haven on August 31, 1943, he was the son of the late John and Pasqualina (Lena) Ardito. Prior to retirement, he worked as an ironworker. James was a member of the Elm City, Hamden, and Guilford Gun Clubs and the Prihillian Club. He was an avid fisherman, loved golfing, skeet shooting and cooking. He was famous for his stuffed breads, anginette cookies and eggplant parmesan. He enjoyed having company, cooking for his guests, especially on holidays and special occasions. James was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society relay for life in North Branford, donating over 500 anginette cookies to raise money for the event. He enjoyed watching UConn women basketball games, both in person and on TV. He was a lover of animals, especially dogs, and will be greatly missed by his companion, Woody. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his granddaughters.
Friends may call on Friday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at MARESCA & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Chapel St., and are invited to go directly to Blessed Michael McGivney Parish in the Church of St. Michael on Saturday, at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. I am Susan Ardito; my late husband, Larry Ardito Sr (he passed just 8 months ago) was a cousin of James. Although I did not know him well, I met Jim a couple of times, and I am sorry to learn of your loss. May you be blessed with strength and peace.

To Carol, Margaret, Gabe, and family,
I was deeply saddened to learn of Jamesy's passing. I have such fond memories of all the conversations he and I shared, and it always made me happy to hear how proud he was of his family, and the love he had for his children and grandchildren. He had a beautiful smile that lit up a room. He was the kindest soul ever. May he RIP and may the beautiful memories you hold dear in your heart help each of you through this difficult time.

With deepest sympathy,

Janis (cousin)

Carol and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss of James. I will miss his jokes when I called, and of course, his cookies and stuffed breads were the best. He loved his family and always told me how proud he was of his "girls", the artist Eva, and the dancing Calkins. May he rest in peace. Love, Wendy
