Margaret Robertson Obituary

Margaret Robertson
May 22, 1939 - November 28, 2024
Margaret Mary Robertson, affectionately known as Peg, passed away peacefully at her home in Groton, Connecticut, on November 28, 2024. Born on May 22, 1939, in New Haven, Connecticut, Peg was the beloved daughter of Rose (Sabin) Mahoney and Henry Bente. She was lovingly raised by her mother and stepfather, James Mahoney.
In August 1969, Peg married William Robertson, and together they welcomed their children, Heather and Michael.
Peg earned a Master's in Education from Albertus Magnus College and enjoyed a fulfilling career as a dedicated and inspiring teacher. She spent most of her career at Clintonville Elementary School in North Haven, where she was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2008. Peg was passionate about fostering a love for reading, writing, and especially theater in her students.
In addition to her professional achievements, Peg was a talented baker, sewer, and painter. Her creative talents brought joy to her family and friends. Peg was also an avid UConn Huskies basketball fan, passionately cheering for the men and women through many seasons.
As a longtime resident of Clinton, Connecticut, Peg was an active member of her community, cherishing her town and all it had to offer. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, delighting in their stories about school, sports, as well as, their travels and adventures. After retirement, Peg and Bill often enjoyed lunches on the deck at Bill's Seafood, savoring time together along the shoreline. Later in life, Peg moved to Groton to be closer to her family.
Peg was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her son. She is survived by her daughter, Heather Holmes, and son-in-law, Andrew Holmes; her treasured grandchildren, Nina Robertson, Christopher Holmes, and Ashleigh Holmes; and her dear cousins, Susan, Kevin, and Tom Sabin, along with their families. Peg is also survived by her longtime caregiver, Ricarla Horsely, whose love and care brought immense joy and comfort in her final years. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Grace, Patricio, and the entire Love You Like a Sister team for their exceptional care and support.
Known for her warm heart, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family, students, and friends, Peg will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Her family and friends take comfort in the lasting legacy of her kindness, love, and passion for education.
She is now together again with her beloved son, Michael.
Arrangements are being handled by Luddy and Peterson's Funeral Home in New Britain, Connecticut. As per Peg's wishes, there will be no formal services.

My condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Robertson.

Mrs. Robertson was my incredible third grade teacher. During the summer of 2005, Mrs. Robertson started a summer theatre camp. Timid & shy, she trusted that I could take on a big role in the summer camp play. By the end of that summer, I was no longer a timid and shy person on that stage (thanks to her). Mrs. Robertson´s guidance, inspiration and patience over the following years instilled my love and passion for theatre.

Mrs. Robertson has nurtured her students emotionally, socially and intellectually. Her love for her students was evident in all of her interactions with students, parents and the Clintonville Community.

I owe a lot to where I am now today because of her and how she has truly changed my life.

My family and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Peg. As a teacher, she had a profound influence on my son, Michael, and other students that were in her classroom. Her love of the arts inspired students in ways that fostered self confidence, a strong work ethic and a sense of cooperation. Her theatrical productions were a way to reach children who might not have flourished solely through traditional academics. Peg knew her kid´s strengths and weaknesses and pushed them to succeed. She also made every child in her class feel loved. Please know that your mother had an incredible impact on my son, our family and all that had the privilege of knowing her.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother,Peggy. I have many great memories of the mantle times we share watching Dennis and Michael play basketball and baseball. I still tell the story of her questioning my husband's comment,"There are ducks on a "pond". She said there are no ducks or a pond here! He later explained and she made a special cake decorated with ducks on a blue frosted cake for the end of season picnic! Such a special lady! Hope your wonderful memories keep her close in your heart forever. Love, Mary Jane Anderson

Heather, We were fortunate to know your Mom, and she was so full of life! Her love of her family was most special and she was so proud of all of you! And the plays she put on with elementary school children were better than any I had ever seen with young talent! We will miss her! the Kolnaski´s
