ROBERT SEARS Obituary

SEARS, ROBERT LESLIE “BURNS” In Branford on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, Robert Leslie Sears “Burns”, 59, of Branford, formerly of Guilford, passed away peacefully after a short illness at CT Hospice in Branford. Bob was the loving husband of Susann Sears, and loving and devoted father to Emily Sears both of Branford. Bob was born on August 7, 1955 in Portland, ME, son of the late Richard Burtt Sears and Eleanor Leslie Sears. In addition to his wife and daughter, he also leaves his brother Richard W. Sears of Killingworth and his niece Ashley E. Sears of Branford. Bobby was a graduate of Mitchell College and also attended SCSU and played soccer at both colleges. He had refereed soccer for many different age groups and umpired softball games in various leagues throughout the shoreline area for many years. He was also an avid Yankee fan. Additionally, Bob’s sense of humor and extraordinary athletic ability will be sorely missed by those that shared the softball diamond and soccer pitch as well. He was quite a guy and those who knew and loved him were blessed, and he will be deeply missed. Friends may call Sunday, March 15 from 4 to 8pm at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 16 at 10:30am in the Guilford Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Route 1, Branford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Guilford Soccer Club, PO Box 21, Guilford, CT 06437 or Guilford Little League, 800 Village Walk, # 213, Guilford, CT 06437.To share a memory or leave a message of condolence, please visit www.GuilfordFuneralHome.com

Somewhere around summer of 1966, I had the opportunity to be a team mate of "Burns" on the Yankees team in the Guilford Little League coached by Mr. Maher and his father eventually winning the championship. He was a great team mate and friend for the 2 years we played on the same team. I met him in later years when he umpired the fall softball league in Guilford. He definitely was a great athlete and an umpire.

Our condolences to his family.

Bobby "Burns" will be missed by all of us that ever played ball with or against him, or umpired alongside . Knowing Burns was to know an unconventional guy- a true character. If I write a book one day he will be in it. To my longtime buddy Dick and his family -my deepest condolences.

Much love goes out to the friends and family of Bobby "Burns " Sears. He was a complex individual who will always be remembered for his over-the-top facial expressions, extraordinary athletic ability and comic relief. Today, I mourn his passing but will always remember him as a buddy and a truly remarkable character.
