Vincent Szeligowski Obituary

SZELIGOWSKI, VINCENT Vincent Szeligowski, 97, of Bethany, husband of 72 years, to Florence B. Gajewski Szeligowski, died Friday April 18, 2014, at home with his loving family at his side. Vincent was born in New Haven, January 16, 1917, a son of the late Vincent and Helen Poplawski Szeligowski and had resided in Bethany for 50 years. He had been employed at Pratt & Whitney as a tool & die maker for 32 years until his retirement in 1989. Prior to that, he was employed by the United States Postal Service, Talon Zipper and A.C. Gilbert. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater. Before entering the service, he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol stationed at the Old Bethany Airport. Vincent was a life-long parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and a member of the Derby Senior Center. Besides his wife, Vincent leaves three sons, Richard Szeligowski (Ann Bobinski) of Branford, Robert Szeligowski (Marie Barone) of Wallingford and Raymond Szeligowski (Micki Improta) of Prospect. He is survived by one sister, Pauline Novak of Durham, and two brothers, Joseph Szeligowski of Loveland, CO and Casimir Szeligowski of Hamden and eight grandchildren; Richard Jr., Michael, Kathryn, Steven, Amanda, Vincent, Jonathan (Sarah Kelly), and David Szeligowski and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Sophie Szeligowski and Helen Kramarczuk. His funeral will leave the LUPINSKI FUNERAL HOME, INC 821 State Street, New Haven on TUESDAY morning at 9:15 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Stanislaus Church at 10. Burial with Military Honors in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visiting hours will be MONDAY from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church 9 Eld Street, New Haven, CT 06511, Clark Memorial Library 538 Amity Road, Bethany, CT 06524 or Vitas Hospice 199 Park Street Extension, Middlebury, CT 06762.
