Elizabeth Lopatesky Obituary

CHESTER - Elizabeth "Betty" Lopatesky, of Chester, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Morristown Medical Center. She was 83.

Mrs. Lopatesky was a lifelong resident of Sparta. Her father, Fred Spoolstra, was the first Chief of Police in Sparta where she met her husband, Ray, who after returning from military service in World War II worked for her farther as a police officer.

Mrs. Lopatesky was employed for several years as a secretary at Limestone Corporation in Layfayette, and for the past 11 years worked as a part-time cook at Nazareth Village Pristes Retirement Center in Chester. Mostly, she was a home maker. She moved from her home in Sparta to Chester in 2011.

Mrs. Lopatesky was a kind, gentle person, quick witted and welcoming, who made everyone who met her feel as if they had known her for years. She enjoyed the simple things of life, her home, cooking, sewing, having dinner parties, travel, crossword puzzles, Curves and the New York Giants. Her greatest joy was being with her family and friends. She was particularly devoted to her children, grandchild and to the senior priests at Nazareth Village. She was a parishioner of St. Lawrence the Martyr Church in Chester.

Mrs. Lopatesky was predeceased by her husband, Ray, who died in 1995. She is survived by her son, Monsignor Ray Lopatesky, of Chester; her daughters, Susan Hedden and her husband, Richard, of Centre Hall, Pa., Sheryl Biron of Lafayette; and four grandchildren, Michael Biron, Elizabeth Biron, Morgan Hedden and James Hedden.

Visitation will be at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will take place at St. Lawrence the Martyr Church, Main St., Chester, Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Nazareth Village, P.O. Box 635, Chester, N.J. 07930; or Hampton Township Education Foundation-Mike Biron Field of Dreams, 2 Sid Taylor Road, Lafayette, N.J. 07848.

I am deeply saddened at the loss of Betty. She was a beautiful person and a real lady. I will always remember all the good times we had. The parties, picnics, trips; and lots & lots of laughter, and of course some tears. May all your happy memories help you through this very difficult time. It was a pleasure to have known her. You are all in my thoughts & prayers.

Msgr Ray, It was always a pleasure to see your mom at OLM when you were preaching or conducting the annual Lenten service. She was always so welcoming and and real gem of a woman! An angel on earth actually. She was also so proud of all that you accomplished and for the effect that you have had on others it obviously came from a great family upbringing! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this tough time. You Mom has joined the chior of angels and has attained her well deserved reward in paradise!

Dear Ray,Susan and Sheryl: Our losses are many but our memories are greater. I consider myself a better person and having a enriched life with the greatness that Ray and Betty have brought to my life. I thank God for that. Betty was always so welcoming and pleasant we will miss her dearly. Now we have to endure our loss again and realize how great a life we have enjoyed. I pray for all of you and your loss but know that He is directing the show. May God bless your hearts and minds as you deal with these difficult times now and in the future. Msgr Ray. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom, one of the nicest ladies I have ever known. From the time I came to Sparta she was one of the most welcoming people you could ever imagine and knowing her son was an extra bonus. May God bless you and your family as you go through this time of loss, but this time of your mom's gain to be in heaven with your dad.
