I was a student of Micki's when she taught at Stover in the 1970's. Later I was at the University of Missouri and actively involved at the Newman Center with Micki. She was in between her active vocation as a sister during that time though she was always doing God's work. She touched many lives and I was blessed to be one of those she touched.

Sr. Micki was a devoted and outstanding English Professor at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. But also she was a mentor, dear friend, faith community member, and spiritual guide for so many at our Catholic Campus Parish at the University. She started a Pax Christi chapter that is still very active. And she conducted parish group meetings for study, prayer and reflection that made clear how social justice and the teachings of Jesus are interwoven and inseparable. Her keen intellect and clear grasp of theology were always a welcome presence during times of difficulty and change. She is truly loved and missed.

Not everybody can say they "changed a life", but Sr Micki changed mine. Such a loving and giving person will truly be missed.

I met Micki just after she arrived in Cincinnati from years of teaching in the Dakotas. She and I became friends and colleagues quickly, and soon she was a friend and mentor for many of others. With a wry Irish wit, Micki expressed herself in thoughtful paragraphs--and short asides. She had the gift of being attentive to any and all who might be troubled. After the deaths of my brother and sister, she helped my broken heart keep beating. As e e cummings described his most remarkable prison-mates in "The Enormous Room", Micki remains a "delectable mountain" in my memory.

Micki was my friend and colleague for my 18-year tenure in the English Department at South Dakota State University. She embodied that rare commitment to teaching and learning that showed in every aspect of her life. She gave freely of her time to her students, mentored her colleagues, shared the joys and gave support during the sorrows for her friends. She also played a mean game of UNO. I will miss her, and extend my sincerest condolences to her family.

Micki was a huge part of our family's life. She was the adopted grandmother to my children and a dear friend to me. I am beyond sad and miss her greatly.
