David Miller

Miller David W. "Doc" Miller, age 62, died unexpectedly due to cardiac arrest January 25, 2016 at Slidell Memorial Hospital. David was the son of Dolores Miller and the late Wesley Miller of Slidell. He is survived by his wife Tammy Nunez Miller, son Jeffrey Miller (Ashley), grandchildren Brielle, Kaden, Rylee, Jaxon, and Layton Miller of Slidell, brother Alan Miller (Connie) of Eagle, Idaho, and numerous extended family members and countless friends. David was a graduate of Slidell High School and Southeastern Louisiana University and then attended The Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. After obtaining his Doctor of Optometry in 1977 he began his practice of optometry, Northshore Family Vision Clinic in Slidell, which he operated until his death. David had many interests and was passionate about all of them. He was quite gifted musically from his childhood playing saxophone and guitar through his adult life singing in Barbershop Quartets and Choirs. He also performed in several musical productions for Slidell Little Theatre. It was during his performance in You're A Good Man Charlie Brown that he met his beloved wife, Tammy. David had a lofty interest in flying; from gliders, ultra-lite aircraft, building and flying radio controlled airplanes to actually jumping out of airplanes! When not looking to the clouds he enjoyed the water; under it while SCUBA diving and atop while boating, fishing, ocean cruising and most recently his custom fishing kayak. An avid New Orleans Saints fan, David loved spicing up their football parties with his own "Doc's" Hot Sauces or award winning baked beans. An "Afterglow"/Celebration of Life will take place Saturday January 30th at the Northshore Beach Firehouse on Debbie Drive in Slidell beginning at 11:00 am. Friends and family are invited to share their experiences and stories. The family would like to thank the physicians and staff of Slidell Memorial Hospital for their valiant efforts and kindness.
