Fred Lyons Obituary

Fred Lyons, 68, died peacefully in his home at 5:30PM on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on January 5, 1946 at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, LA. He resided in Ohio for 45 years after he completed his tour in Vietnam. He served with the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise, as a jet mechanic. He is currently a member of the VVA Chapter 55 and a former member of the American Legion #85, out of Newark, Ohio. He was a Production Technician at Ampacet in Heath, Ohio for 41 years. He is survived by his wife, Laurie C. Lyons; his two sons, Randall Scott Lyons and Jonathan Ross Lyons, both of Massillon, Ohio; a step-daughter, Gayle Raye Climer (Mickie) of Ohio; a step-son, Joshua Tyler Smith (Nicky) of Rossford, Ohio; 2 grandchildren, Jayde Mackenzie Bobb and Mikki Roslyn Climer; 2 step-grandchildren, Emma and Joseph Climer; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends from Ohio, Alabama and Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his mother, Amelia B. Lyons; his father, Herman Matthew Lyons Sr.; 3 brothers, Herman Matthew Lyons Jr., Marshall Lyons and Leslie Francis Lyons who died shortly after his birth. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at the Chalmette National Battlefield, 8606 W. St. Bernard Hwy, Chalmette, LA on March 22, 2014 from 1:00PM - 2:00PM, followed by military honors. Burial will be private.
