Dr. H. L. "Rocky" Asevedo, Jr. passed away April 18, 2016 at the age of 60 years. Beloved husband of Marlena Fleenor Asevedo. Son of Mildred Hanks Asevedo and the late Harold L. "Dutch" Asevedo, Sr. Father of Alexis Hope Asevedo, Christian Sage Asevedo, Elena Lace Asevedo, and Chase Samuel Asevedo. Rocky graduated high school from River Oaks Academy, Bachelor's Degree from Nicholls State University, Masters from Our Lady of Holy Cross College, and PhD from University of New Orleans, Counselor of Education with Emphasis on Human Performance and Health Promotion. He was a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Clinically Certified Forensic Counselor. The past twelve years he dedicated his career to the advancement of mental health for our community and region. His accomplishments were recognized such as 1999 Outstanding Research Award from Our Lady of Holy Cross College Marriage and Family Counseling and in 2005 Dr. Asevedo was asked by the owner of Pointe Celeste Therapeutic Riding Center, Mr. Billy Nungesser, to produce a body of research demonstrating the benefits that the equestrian experience might have for at-risk youth. Rocky's leadership extended beyond the mental health field into his community, and accomplishments include his 2008 appointment by Louisianan Gov. Bobby Jindal to represent him as member of the Health Education Authority of LA; recipient of Our Lady of Holy Cross College's Outstanding Alumnus Award from Counseling Program; Plaquemines Parish New Charter Commission; and elected to serve as the District 3 Representative of the Plaquemines Republican Executive Committee. Current member of the Board of Directors for Plaquemines Association of Business and Industry, past President and current member of the Rotary Club of Belle Chasse, member of the Republican Women of LA, member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Knights of Columbus Council #6357, Major with Jefferson Parish Constable's Office and Board Member of Our Lady of Holy Cross College. His most recent work included Asevedo Associates, his private counseling practice; mental health counseling for officers with Plaquemines, Jefferson, and St. Bernard Parishes and the City of Gretna Police Departments; and owner of Spartan Security Services, a tracking company for juveniles at risk. Rocky left this world as he entered it with a smile on his face, enthusiasm for life, spring in his step, and a passion for education, self improvement and serving others. He will be lovingly remembered a wonderful son, husband, father and friend. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 5 PM until 10 PM and Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 8 AM until 10:30 AM.
