Jacqueline O'Callaghan Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jacqueline "Jackie" Marziale O'Callaghan on August 30, 2024. Born on July 10, 1943, in New Orleans, Jackie brought warmth and joy to everyone who knew her. Jackie is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jacob J. Marziale and Violet Serpas Marziale, her brother, Ferdinand J. Marziale, sister-in-law, Frances B. O'Callaghan, nephew, Brian J. Marziale, and cousins, Dianne M. Brant, and Ruth B. Quinlan. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 60 years, Richard J. O'Callaghan, her loving sons, Kevin P. O'Callaghan (Stephanie) and Patrick M. O'Callaghan (Heather), and her cherished grandchildren, Caitlin, Lauren, and Christian O'Callaghan. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Elizabeth T. Marziale, her dear niece, Lisa M. Wells (Patrick), and their children, Joshua, Erika, and Rachel, and their families. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Dennis J. O'Callaghan, nephew, Brady D. O'Callaghan (Amy), and children, Logan and Marshall O'Callaghan. Additionally, Jackie is survived by multiple cousins, their spouses, and children. Particularly close to Jackie throughout her life were her cousins, Anna C. Debo, Deborah A. Quinlan, Lawrence J. Bertoniere, and Ronald Pustanio. A graduate of St. Joseph's Academy, Jackie went on to study at the University of New Orleans, where she met the love of her life, Richard. They married in 1965 and embarked on a beautiful journey together, which included an adventurous three-year stay in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Upon returning to New Orleans, Jackie dedicated herself to her family and community, working as a substitute teacher at Resurrection of Our Lord Elementary School and volunteering at Lafon Nursing Home, where her kindness touched many lives. Few people were as friendly as Jackie. Her laugh was infectious, and she never knew a stranger. Jackie had a way of making everyone feel included and appreciated. She was a wonderful woman, a devoted mother and grandmother, and could not help making a friend wherever she went. She took all under her wing and was the loving support to so many! We invite you to join us in celebrating Jackie's life and the indelible mark she left on her friends and family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the countless lives she touched. Funeral services will be held at , 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am, followed by a service at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Her famous Green Cake recipe was passed on to me as a graduate student working with Dr. RO'C and I still make it several times a year. She was an amazing and generous person who touched so many as the supportive spouse of an accomplished academic. She brought light to the room and was the best host at every party. May she shine in heaven. Hugs to her family; she will be missed but she lives on.

It is with great remorse to hear of the passing of Jacqueline.
She had such a jovial sense of living, and i have many memories of her and her husband kidding around.
Freind of her and her family
