John and Family,

Juan was such a kind and loyal man to me and my Dad for many years. Juan was always loyal to Tulane University, even in the tough times. I will never forget how he would tell me about my Dad playing football at Tulane. Juan was always willing to help out and volunteer his time with the New Orleans Quarterback Club any other organizations. Please accept my sympathy on the passing of Juan. We will certainly remember Juan and miss him greatly. God Bless Juan and the Velasco Family,

Stan Kottemann, Jr.

As a fellow Exchangite, Juan was Mr. Exchange in the Arkansas-Louisiana District. He was a Past District President and dedicated to all of our civic organization's community service projects. Years ago when I lived in Shreveport, Juan would stay at my home whenever Exchange Club meetings were held in the Shreveport/Bossier area. Juan was often the only Tulane graduate among a host of LSU loyalists -- leading to a friendly rivalry ... Juan against the rest. If he could have, he would have transfused all of the purple and gold blood in the room with his favorite color -- Green. I have many fond memories of this dear, dear man. He will be missed -- he already is.

I will miss Juan Velasco, who I first met at a New Orleans QB Club meeting in 1981 when I was a new attorney working downtown. Over the years our paths crossed on numerous occasions in the sports and legal arenas. I considered Juan not only my friend, but also my "expert" in Sport and Traffic Court, two parts of his life I know he enjoyed. He was the best at both. A lot of people will miss him.

On behalf of Loyal ATO's everywhere, please accept our deepest sympathies at the loss of your father. Juanie was a devoted member of the Tulane ATO Alumni community and always generous with his time and spirit with anyone associated with the Fraternity. His passion for his family, friends, and his profession was quite infectious and he was loved and admired by all those he encountered in his travels. We are grateful to have shared this fraternal bond and share in your deep sense of loss.

Juannie has always held a special place in my heart because he introduced my parents who are about to celebrate their 42 anniversary. He was a very special friend and I will miss him terribly. He always made me laugh and tried to keep my spirits up during Alabama's bad football years. Thanks for everything, Juannie, you will be missed by all of us who love you.

As a fellow 49er, I had the great joy of sparring with your father about sports trivia. Of all the battles we had, I remember I had one victory. But considering my opponent, I consider that a great victory. When I was in New Orleans for our 55th Jesuit High anniversary, I had the pleasure of having dinner with your father and Jim Cooke. It was a privelage to know him so well. And I offer my condolences on your loss. God bless you and your family.
