Langston Emanuel Lewis

Langston Emanuel Lewis entered this earthly life on October 17, 1989, and departed to his eternal home on March 11, 2023. He was born at Ochsner Foundation Hospital to Tamara Renee Lewis Yilla and Kenneth Michael Chaney in New Orleans, Louisiana. Langston was baptized by his grandfather, Deacon Raymond J. Lewis in the Catholic faith as an infant. He then accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at River of Life Christian Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Curtis and Sis. Sang Stacey and when displaced joined Jubilee Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor Gary and Colette Hash. Langston was educated in the Orleans Parish School System and was in his freshman year at O. Perry Walker High School when Hurricane Katrina hit and he evacuated to live with his grandmother, Mary Lewis in Pulaski, Virginia. There, Langston attended Pulaski County High and graduated in 2009. He was a member of the high school football team and during his senior year they enjoyed a perfect season. Langston was a standout offensive lineman and spoke with several potential college coaches including Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech University. Upon graduation, he attended Ferrum College in Ferrum, Virginia and New River Community College in Dublin, Virginia. During this time he worked in his uncle's funeral business and was considering mortuary services as a career. Life intervened and brought Langston back home to New Orleans in 2015 to Josephine Street. Langston was a fixture in the neighborhood and was known and loved as an easy going and genuine person. He was known for his love of steaks and his skills on the barbeque grill both in his neighborhood and at work. Over the years, Langston was employed with several different companies most recently, Comeaux Furniture and Appliance, delivering appliances, ILA 3000, as a longshoreman and was currently employed at Carlo Ditta, LLC, as a laborer. Langston is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Brisco, his parents, Tamara Yilla and Kenneth Chaney, his three sisters, Sophia Yilla, Choie Sumpter and Chalai Chaney, one brother Travis Chaney, (Tomekai), uncles, Anthony Chaney (Elaine), Daniel Chaney, Rickey Chaney, Steven Chaney, Raymond Lewis Jr, (Leona) Randall Lewis, Keith Moore, (Francida) David Dawson, great uncles Lewis Penn, George Penn, William Penn, aunts Rita Arceneaux, Dawn Collins (Ernest), Burnetta Moore and great aunt Paulette Penn and a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents Joe Nathan Chaney, Julia Carter Chaney, Deacon Raymond J. Lewis, Shirley J. Lewis, Mary Penn Lewis, brother Allen Chaney, uncles Charles Chaney, Kevin Chaney, and Alfred Moore, great uncles Clarence Penn and Alvin Penn and aunt Sandra Chaney. Relatives, and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral service at D. W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue New Orleans, LA 70125 on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
