My sincere condolences to the family of Ms. Teannie. She was my first piano teacher and a friend of my great aunt, Anna Alonzo. I remember when she played the Edlewise Waltz for me with such grace and ease, back in 1965. She was my teacher for 8 years and because of her I still play today. I loved her house, her upright piano and Mr. Chester. I'm 57 now, live in Abita Springs and will always remember Ms. Teannie, especially when I play the Edlewise Waltz. She was quite a lady and touched so many lives.

I loved "Aunt" Teanie because she was so New Orleans. Such a part of the character and flavor of the New Orleans I fell in love with and will love for the rest of my life, no matter where I have to live since Katrina. I had no idea of all her accomplishments, altho her neighborhood activism was legendary. She is an inspiration for future generations of all that can be achieved no matter what your age. Can you imagine what the angels in heaven are saying, now that they have Teanie after them, telling them they aren't moving fast enough? Well done thou good and faithful servant Teanie--WELL DONE!!

Laurentine will be missed by the Holy Cross Neighborhood but we do see her name every day above the community garden on one of our most travelled corners. It was named for her years ago to celebrate her public involvement and contribution to Holy Cross as a nurtured green place.
Ms Ernst constantly reminded residents of our links with the past through her articles in the Holy Cross Neighborhood Association's monthly newsletter, and made herself available for people wanting to know more.
She was a commissioner for years on the Historic District Landmarks Commission and a staunch defender of this city's architectural heritage.
She was indeed a strong opponent of the lock project pursued by the Corps and the Port. As historic district commissioner she was invited to participate in early "neighborhood working group" discussions on this and became convinced the lock project would be extremely detrimental for the Holy Cross Neighborhood no matter what mitigation could be offered.
She was invariably polite yet quite able to speak her mind.
We will miss her presence but long celebrate her life here
with us.
Thank you, Laurentine. And thanks to her family.
