I had the pleasure of meeting both her and her husband we were members of the same church. I also had the pleasure of singing for her funeral. I am a member of St. Peter Claver's choir. Mrs. Chase was one of my idols. I have such a passion for cooking. Always trying something new and experimenting different things. She will be missed dearly. And to the family I will be praying for you all. But know she leaves a wonderful legacy behind.

To the Chase Family: Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Leah Lange Chase, who was a magnificent mother and grandmother who embraced the Chase enterprise and brought it to the worlds stage. Her body of work as a connoisseur of Creole cooking and restaurant management will serve as an inspiration to those pursuing a career in the Culinary Arts. Her accomplishments in this industry is indicative of hard work, good work ethic, excellent business sense and extreme determination. Leah Chases community involvement puts her in a category with a select few. Her work in this area shows her concern for the people of the Crescent City. Leahs legacy will be remembered by all of us. Farewell Leah Lange Chase. From Joan M. Griffin and family (stepdaughter of the late Leo Lecesne)

Dooky, Stella and Leah, I am very saddened, as all of New Orleans is, over the untimely death of your sweet sweet mother. She always had a smile on her face and never met a stranger. She was a lot like my own mother who never had a mean word to say to or about anyone. I had never met anyone like my mother until I met your Mom. She was an angel on earth and now is an angel in HEAVEN. We will all miss her but take with us the rest of our lives the memories we had of our time with her.
I am praying for all of you to have the strength to carry on in this difficult time. She will be waiting for you one day when all of you go to Heaven also.
With love & prayers,

Dear Chase family ,
I pray daily for you. Micheal and Traci Griffin introduced me to Ms. Leah Chase many years ago. She was kind, energetic, and down to earth. I saw a glimpse of Leah in Micheal and Traci's children as they were selling lemonade and pastries. Ms. Chase was advising and encouraging to her great grandchildren. Family stay close to each other, love each other, and honor Mama Chase by living a life of service to God, your family, and the community. Take your well- deserved rest Leah Chase, you were beautiful, faithful, and hard-working.

Sometimes the sorrow is more than we can bear but precious memories can cause our hearts to heal.
May the God of all comfort give your family peace. It was always a pleasure to be in Mrs. Chase company. She is missed.

Two words best describe Mrs. Chase's many attributes: "none better." Ironically, these words were spoken by her late husband, "Little Dooky," the last time I saw him, shortly before his death. He stood between my wife and me, who he had known for more than a half-century. He held our hands, then he said "none better"
So many kind words have been used to describe Mrs. Chase's many contributions: "Creole culinary queen;" there may have been a few equals, but none better. For practically all of her adult life she was a tireless community servant. Very few approached the length and breadth of her voluminous service to our city, state, indeed our nation, but none better. Of course others hosted Civil Rights leaders, presidents, state and national leaders, but none better.
She never hesitated to offer praise-worthy comments for a job well done. On the other hand she never refused to scold unacceptable behavior no matter the source. She described herself as a little girl from Madisonville who had discovered and participated in a great big world that often shunned people of color, especially females. Along the way she realized that if you believe in yourself, you can achieve greatness even if others doubt you.
Because Leah Chase was so comfortable with herself, she felt comfortable with others who she believed could also be as successful as anyone. Our community may well see the emergence of an extraordinary individual who will be as successful as she was, but doubtless, "none better".
The Chase family can long be comforted by her rich legacy and love which will long survive the grave.

"What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget"
