He also turned down offers from the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago White Sox. During his life he was on the Academy of Holy Angels Board, Riverland Credit Union Board, and Past President of the New Orleans Umpire Association. In the Father Clarence Hug K.C. Council he held the position of financial secretary, and for years also served as Justice of the Peace -the first Republican elected in St. Bernard since Reconstruction Days. His Hall of Fame accomplishments are: 1) Redemptorist – for football and baseball, 2) Loyola University for baseball as an individual (best centerfielder) 3) Loyola University – best baseball team for Loyola University 4) New Orleans Umpires Association and 5) in 2001 – inducted into the Diamond Club of Greater New Orleans. Our deepest sympathy to Mary and your children. I will always remember the days working with Dookie at NOPSI and when he talked me into umpiring. Never knowing I would replace him as assigning secretary for the association. A great mentor and most of all a good friend. He will be missed.

I first met Dookie at Wright Jr High as my PE coach , then after I left the Army in 1970 I met up with him again when I applied for a job at NOPSI on 317 Baronne St. I believe he worked in comerical sales along with my cousin Jimmy Rousell . The last time I saw him was at the hospital in the waiting room when his wife was having a procedure He will be greatly missed .

Dear Mary Gen:

My deepest sympathy to you and the Dauphin Family. Take comfort in knowing that you now have a special guardian angel to watch over you.
Some of my fondest memories at Loyola involve "Dookie" in one way or another. He will be missed, but I know he has teamed up with Paul Gelpi in Heaven, and they have the Angels and Saints in stitches.

Dear Family,
My late brother-in-law so often spoke of his dear friend, Dookie. Although we shall never meet, I'm compelled to say that Paul Gelpi loved the friendship they shared all through the Baseball years. Their spirits will
reunite.
What a special husband, father, grandfather and more...Please know of my prayers as you say farewell. May
we all meet spiritually in the future.
God bless each of you at this trying time.
Sincerely,
Cookie (Gelpi) Zibilich

Dookie was my coach at Wright Jr High.
What a inspiration to many young men from 1960 to 1963!! I saw him hit a indoor ball over the 3 story building in the school yard. I also umpired for him for 14 years. He was a wonderful positive influence on my life and many others.

I first encountered "Dookie" when I was a kid playing football at Sophie B. Wright Jr. High. His first words to me were, "Fasten that chin strap so you don't get hurt when you fall off the bench." From that semi-insult he and I remained friends all our lives. I thought the world of Dookie. His mere presence will be missed.

Ms. Mary, Julie & Jeanne,
David & I were so saddened to hear of Mr Dookie's death. He was such a warm, wonderful, loving Christian man. He lived a full life doing what made him happy & he is leaving all with wonderful memories. I know these last few years have been rough. Remember the good times! I am sure he is back to his old carefree fun self in heaven having a ball with old friends!! You will all be in our thoughts & prayers. I don't think we will be able to take off work on Mondsy to make the services, but we will be with you in spirit!
Love,
Mary Ann Giardina

So very sad to know Uncle Dookie passed. I saw him several times when I was little. He looked like he was a mafia boss and I asked him if he was and he laughed and hugged me up and Said if I tell you I would have to kill you. Lol But I knew he was joking and that's what I loved most about him was his sense of humor. He will be missed. Love Sarah, (The late Donald Dauphin Sr's Granddaughter)

Ms Mary and family, my heart is broken for your loss of this great man. He wore many hats and wore them well but his family steered his heart! And everyone knew it! He will always be with you, you'll see. You will hear his laugh, his advice, feel the comfort of his hugs. Something will remind you of him and you'll see it all the time. And your memories will be there to comfort you. He is at peace. Well done, good and faithful servant!! Much love to you all, Janelle Jensen Lee
