Nancy Archer Obituary
The family of Nancy Mallory Archer sadly announces her passing on July 30th at age 80. Nancy was born February 16, 1942 in New Orleans, LA. to the late Dr. James Guy Mallory and Grace Lenore Chapman. She was a 1959 graduate of Alcee Fortier High School and a member of DBS sorority. She was an active member of First Baptist Church. Nancy was a 1964 graduate of University of Louisiana Lafayette. A devoted teacher, she began her fifteen-year teaching career in New Orleans with more than 10 years in the Arlington and Fairfax County school districts of Virginia. In 1974 she was elected to Who's Who Outstanding Teachers of America. After leaving the classroom, she became an educational consultant to the American Gas Association in Arlington, Va then Director of the Washington Office of the National Energy Foundation sponsoring two high school winners of full college scholarships. Moving to Austin, TX in 1991, she became an active member of Riverbend Church serving as coordinator of the Habitat for Humanity church build. She was elected to the Board of Directors of Habitat in Austin and served for seven years. Nancy also worked with Habitat in Wilmington, NC. In addition to her volunteer service, she was a corporate trainer to major corporations. Joining her husband in Liberty, TX, Nancy became involved in local activities and was elected Democratic County Chairperson, a position she held for twelve years, She was a member of the genealogy club and the Liberty Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her genealogy research took her all over the country with as many sisters, friends, children, and grandchildren as she could get to go with her. Nancy was a devoted mother and grandmother and delighted in all their many activities. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Christian Archer of Liberty, TX, sister Janet Mallory Harder, and granddaughter Ruby Love Scott. She is survived by her children, Mallory Archer Samson (Bill) Calvin, Spencer and Gigi Samson, son Christian Archer (Catherine) Christian, James and Emily, daughter Lenn Archer Augusta and Shelby. She is also survived by her beloved sisters Susan Mallory Shaw (Danny) and Jamie Mallory Van Benthysun (Wat) and her numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, whom she adored. Nancy requested no funeral. A celebration of her life will be held at a later time. Those wishing to honor her life may donate to the charity of their choice or a day of service to their community.
