Dear Mrs. Whiteside & Family,
I was good friends with Richard in NOLA for many years.
He was like a big brother or uncle and we even co-authored some articles together.
We did not know that he had passed, as we moved to Colorado 14 yrs ago. Our deepest regards to you and your family.
Sincerely and Kindest Regards, Comm'r George Mentz, Esq.

My condolences to the family. It was a lovely service today. I enjoyed hearing so many stories about how loved he was and the lives he touched. In the short time that I knew Dick I wish I had the opportunity to spend more time with him. I hope that Kathy & her family will find peace In the days going forward.

As newly hired Director of the Writing Program at the University of Hartford in the 1980s, I relied on Dick Whiteside's expertise in all matters related to student enrollment. His leadership was inspiring, as was his Cheshire Cat smile. Dick and his gracious wife Kathy enhanced the community we shared. I am grateful to have known him, and I send my deepest sympathies to his beautiful family.

In my life I have had the privilege of meeting many people. One person etched forever in my memory is Richard Whiteside. He captured my dear friend Kathy's heart many years ago and has been her escort on this journey called life. While raising our families our communication was sparse, but in these golden years we have been able to reconnect and continue our friendship where we left off. Getting to better know this wonderful man was a blessed gift. He was all that dear Kathy's escort should be, witty, kindhearted, a natural storyteller and a loving caring spouse. His abrupt passing has been a shock to all who love him. His spirit will live on in his family, his grandchildren and in our memories. We don't understand why God called him now. We do know He is entrusting us to escort Kathy and be her strength during this difficult journey. It would certainly be Richards loving request.

Kathy, Megan and Elizabeth, what a shock when I was told of Richard's passing. Upon reminiscing of my younger years, I go back to all the fun times we had when all the cousins would get together. Richard was definitely the one who urged us to get involved in so many different things and to play jokes on our parents. As we became older our paths took us different ways but when reuniting at family gatherings our memories took us back to wonderful times, going to the Lake, the Cardin annual cook out, vacation weeks spent together and so much more. My prayers for you will be for the Strength and the Knowledge of his Love for you to continue on.
Love,
Cousin, Marylou Boyer, Cumberland, RI

I loved being a colleague and friend to Dick Whiteside when we were both employed at the University of Hartford. Dick was always full of innovative ideas, many of which I gleefullyI took credit. He practiced university administration not only competently, but with a combination of passion and integrity. I am saddened by his untimely and tragic passing and relay my sincerest condolences to his wife Kathy and his family. Dick will be missed by many in the academy who benefitted from his wisdom and experience, but equally so as a kind hearted and compassionate friend. Rest In Peace! Bob Chernak

As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
