Sandra Palmer Obituary

PALMER Sandra Marie Palmer departed this life on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the age of 57 in her home. She was born in New Orleans to the union of Willie Palmer, Sr. and Ezzie Ruth Palmer on November 8, 1956. Sandra was a graduate of McDonogh 35 Senior High School. She received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Dillard University in 1978. Within her 30-plus years of teaching she lovingly taught students of kindergarten and first grade. She worked at a number of NOPS schools including Lawless Elementary, Rogers Elementary, Rosenwald Elementary, Johnson Elementary and Batiste Charter. She was a dedicated and passionate teacher, deeply committed to her students. Sandra was adept at providing both the academic and emotional foundations needed for her young students' future success. A steadfast and generous friend, she was devoted to helping others; graciously sharing her time, talents and possessions with anyone in need.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother and father. Sandra will lovingly be remembered by her brother, Willie (Sandra Blunt) Palmer, Jr., and her sister Paulette Johnson. She is also survived by seven aunts, eight uncles, eight nieces, four nephews, and a host of cousins and dear friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 2015 Louisiana Ave. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Interment: Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements by Rhodes Funeral Home.

Willie and Sandra (and family): I have been meaning to touch base with you to see how you are doing. I also want to thank you for allowing me the honor of writing the poem for Sandra's program. I was thinking a week or so ago about my association with Sandra at Holy Ghost years ago. She was just lovely! Further, I had the opportunity of seeing her in action in the classroom--phenomenal teacher!! When her mother passed away years back, I stopped in her classroom and gave her a little crucifix or some small token. I had forgotten all about it. She told me the last time I saw her, "I still have the (cross) you gave me pinned on my bulletin board." I thought that was so sweet! I will continue to lift you and your family in prayer during this difficult time. May God bless you with His healing power!!

Family: May Gods' word sustain you through this time of grief and continue to do so on a daily basis. Cling to his words for comfort, while Praying for that Peace that passes all unserstanding. Claim his promises and lay all of your hurt on the shoulders of our Father. There is nothing our God cannot do, including healing the hurt and pain your heart is going through. He is a comforter.
