In 1970, I met Mr. Poole about six months after my college graduation when he was a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Avondale Shipyard. I was very "green" as a mechanical engineer, but he was most kind when I called on him. In a short time, he said, "Just call me Tom".
Shortly thereafter, he became Chief Engineer at ASI and led an incredibly talented and gifted cadre of engineers and designers. It appeared his team could design and build any commercial floating or non-floating structure. You name it, and at Avondale and his team could design it.
His beautiful wife Bernie always had that "twinkle" in her eyes when we would meet for dinner or plays. When I asked him how many children they had, he said "Bernie and I stopped when we reached 10 with twins". I could not believe it. Nothing seemed to rattle them.
Tom introduced me to a "Black Jack Old Fashion". That was his go-to when we were at lunch at the Tchoupitoulas restaurant.
After he retired to the Prairieville area, we had lunch on a few occasions. I was truly blessed to know Tom and Bernie both on a professional and personal basis. May they both rest in peace.

I am deeply sorry for the passing of sweet, Mr.Poole. I will never forget the first time I went to his home to meet with him. I introduced myself as one of the home health nurses that would be caring for him, he took my hand and kissed it. That made my day. What a gentleman! He kissed my hand each and every visit after that. He was always so kind and so appreciative. It was simply a joy to care for.

So sorry to learn of the passing of Mr Poole! He and Mrs Poole were always so warm and welcoming when we were in high school. They were a beautiful example of a great marriage and loving family!

Tom was a great shipbuilder and a joy to work with and work for. I worked mostly in Machinery spaces design and 3D modeling and was always in awe of his knowledge and experience related to all of the equipment associated with those spaces. He was passionate and committed to his/our responsibilities. Outside the office, Tom was very personable, fun, enjoyed a good Old Fashion and sharing stories, being a great story teller himself. He also enjoyed a good meal and we were very fortunate to have enjoyed many with he and his family, Ruth Chris being one of his favorites. Also we enjoyed many golf outings with he and Ms Bernie. Ms Bernie was more serious about the game, wouldn´t allow RogerRules(inside joke), Tom not so much, he liked Roger Rules LOL. We love the whole Poole family. Our sincere condolences and hugs to you all. Fare winds and Following Seas to a great man, a great friend and a great shipbuilder.
