The memories I have of Ron Stander is when my Grandfather Leonard Hawkins would bring him home after a long day of practice. I was a child and Ron would let us kids climb on his back. He would play with us. He was a awesome person.

I'm sorry for your loss Toddy. I met you both when he signed a poster board of his fight with Joe Frazier. We had a nice conversation and he introduced me to you. He was a gentleman and I'll treasure that memory. All my best to you.

I met Ron after fighting in a smoker at Sokol Hall in Omaha. After leaving the ring that night my coach Dick O'Conner said this guy wants to shake your hand. It was Ron Stander, OMG, he fought for the Heavy Weigh World Championship. He was so kind then and really pumped me up for the upcoming Golden Gloves Tourney. Bumped into Ron several more times through the years and it was always a delight to visit with him. He will be missed. Thanks Ron...

Met Ron after a fight I'd had during a smoker in Omaha's Sokol Hall. After my fight, my coach Dick O'Conner, said this guy wants to shake your hand. It was Ron, the man who had fought for a heavy weight world championship. Wow, what a great feeling that was for me. Ran into Ron several times through the years and he was always the kindest man to talk to. Can't say enough good about him, he will be missed. Thanks Ron...

I´m so sorry for the family. I know losing a parent is tough. Ron had been in my life for 34 years. I couldn´t be more luckier to have sick a sweet down to earth father-in law. He always came to jakes football games at St alberts. He would stand on the fence to watch him up close. My DAD always liked to chat with Ron at the games. He was so funny. He loved kids and he would light up a room when he came in. Ron liked to tease. One of the latest times I saw him and toddy they were going somewhere and he was joking saying that´s not gonna happen when she told me where they were going. I knew he was joking. The first time I met Ron when I was dating frank was at a football game I asked to borrow Franks car to go to the gas station. I was only 16. I wrecked his car and when I got there. I had to meet Ron and tell frank I had wrecked his car. Ron said well don´t you know how to drive? My family loved Ron. He spent some holidays with us when he was single and he was always the life of the party. There are so many great memories. I always knew when his time came, it would be xtra tough on all of us. I am just so glad that he had Toddy in his life to be by his side. I love you Ron. I´m grateful you were in my life, and my kid´s. You will never be forgotten.

It just doesn't seem possible that he is gone Frank told me he wouldn't live forever and somehow I did not believe him. Seems sureal that he is really gone and I didn't even get to say goodbye. Ron and My father ran around together for so many years that it just seemed as though he was family, and as famous as he ever got just seemed like it never changed him in any way. When I was a kid we would go up to the house off north Broadway and Frank and I would do our best to stir up some trouble like using a baseball bat to beat off the bees trying to swarm us. The hijinks we got into was insane but neither of our father did much to discourage us boys..Both great men and now both gone. I have lost just a little bit more of my father by Ron leaving this world also its a sad day all around he will be missed. Prayers to all concerned I'll see you all at the services....R L Wood (Woodys Son)

Your strength...determination...and huge heart directed you through life...examples that I followed thanks to you. I'll always remember you as a friend I never had the pleasure of meeting. If I'm worthy of going to Heaven...would you save me a place next to you ?

I'm so sorry, Toddy. Ronnie was good man. He & I met in 7th grade when he came to Bloomer School in 1956, and played football together from then on until we graduated high school. I also remember him getting in a fight with a kid named Joe Bonacci in the 8th grade - it was the first time I saw him box. I've known him ever since. We even used to play football one-on-one in my back yard in junior high - nobody else wanted to play. I played beside "Tank" Milner in high school, and we learned early on to make our blocks quickly because Ron was coming like a freight train. Two steps and he was at full speed, the fastest man on our football team and the strongest fullback in the Intercity League. He was a great athlete, and a sly kidder; often one wasn't sure whether he was serious or kidding - he was that good at it. I remember helping him with his insurance when he had the bar - we hadn't seen much of each other, and we rekindled our friendship then. I've enjoyed seeing you both at class reunions, and I've also enjoyed your Facebook page. Losing a spouse is the pits, Toddy. My condolences to you and the rest of your family; he will be missed. I'll remember him always - one can't forget a man like Ron.

Sad to learn of Ron's passing to eternity and our prayers are with the family and friends. I attended grade and high school with him. I was a teammate in football and track. While I was not a wrestler, I have memories of Ron and Ken Eledge interrupting our basketball practice several times. I followed his boxing and racing. Last saw him at lunch in CB with Conaway, Madison, Clouse and Milner. He had a quiet and sweet spirit.

I'm so sorry for your loss I can remember Ron coming to the gym below to practice at the Foxhole and he would come in to Frank and Phil's cafe to talk with Frank and Frank had a photo of him in there.
Also I believe he knew Stan No back which was a boxer at the Civic Center. So he's now with Mad dog and the other greats.

Remember Ron as a local celebrity in CB/Omaha area. Remember a boxing match held in packed St. Albert Gymnasium. Also meeting him years later at a bar just north of Dick Dean Service (Railway Grill?) where we talked awhile as I was having my car worked on.
Great person, glad to have met him. Will offer a Mass for him and keep his family and friends in my prayers.
