Heaven gained another angel this week. For those growing up in New Jersey and attending @Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church in the 1970s-90s, it meant seeing Der Vahrich Shirinian preside over the services, Victor (Vartkes) Tekirian assist as lead deacon on the altar, and "Uncle Armen" lead the church choir in four-part harmony. Uncle Armen welcomed all into the choir to celebrate the joy of the Armenian Apostolic church service. Though he's been retired and unable to attend, he has never been far from our thoughts. After being part of the choir as a soprano, Uncle Armen helped me to learn to sing alto and to play the organ in church (from only having piano lessons) to give back to my community.

Gave me my first solo in church on Armenian Christmas Eve. I was 7. 'Uncle' Armen, you taught me everthing I know about the Yegmalian Badarak. As I teach the next generation of young Armenians the sharagans as well as your compositions, you are in my heart. We will all meet again, "Ari Mer Doon" Love, your Nvairig

Armen taught my sons Peter and Chris to sing songs in Armenian and was a great inspiration to them throughout their life. The sound of his choir was heavenly. Sandie Chobanian

Rest in Peace Mr. B.
Not only taught me a lot about baseball but anytime I was with him he taught me something about life.
A true gentleman.
It was an honor to know him and be around him.

Our Dear Uncle Armen was the person most responsible for uniting several generations of Armenian Americans through his generosity, friendship, and boundless love of singing. Our community will never be the same. We were all blessed to have had him in our lives. Rest in peace Uncle Armen, and thank you for leaving us with a greater understanding of who we are.
