Edmund Kmiotek Obituary
Oradell - Edmund Anthony Kmiotek, longtime resident of Oradell, NJ and Breezy Point, NY passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2021, just days shy of his 95th birthday. He was the loving father of Judene Pellerin, Barbara McCarty, Paul Kmiotek (Megan Fries), and Andrea Kmiotek (James Burke), grandfather of Nicole, Donielle, Andrew, Sophie, Thomas, Ella, and Jack, great-grandfather of Edith and Cecilia. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 65 joyous years, Joan. He is also predeceased by his siblings, Thomas, Adele, and Genevieve.
Edmund was born in Brooklyn, NY on Aug. 6, 1926. After proudly serving in the Marines during WW2 he attended the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and earned a degree in civil engineering. His lifelong career designing roadways and bridges took him and his family to live for several years in Toronto, Canada and The Hague, Netherlands.
He was known far and wide for his beautiful watercolor paintings which received many awards, including honors from the Salmagundi Art Club, Ridgewood Art Association, and Breezy Point Art Show. If you knew him, you are sure to have an Ed Kmiotek painting or print hanging in your home. He loved travel and music. He loved planning detailed trip itineraries to places ranging from a day trip to the Bronx to weeks in Europe. He was a pioneer in recording the "mixed tape" using his beloved reel to reel recorder. He loved capturing family moments on camera and on his famously directed and edited videos. Mostly, he loved being with family and friends and always had a smile for all.
Family and friends will be welcomed at the William G. Basralian Funeral Home, 559 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell on Tuesday, August 3rd from 3-7 PM. Funeral services will be offered on Wednesday, August 4th at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 300 Elm Street in Oradell at 11 AM; all asked to meet at church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Oradell Public Library Foundation, 375 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell, NJ 07649, in memory of Ed and Joan Kmiotek.

I was fortunate to meet and work on Ed's projects when I started at H&H in the late '80s - a truly wonderful person, generous with his time and a good engineer.

I did not know Ed that well, but our time at H&H overlapped for approximately 10 years. During that period, I knew Ed to be a good engineer, and more importantly, always with a smile or a laugh and a good attitude.
