Edward Bashian Obituary
"Papa Eddie
" of Christopher, Alexander, Jennifer, Paul, Christina, Andrew, Robert and Max. Loving father-in-law to Jackie, Kathy, Terry, Jeff and Kevin. He was a member of and Co-Chairman of the building committee as well as Parish Council Chairman of the Holy Cross Armenian Church of New York. He was a member of and Chairman of the building committee as well as Chairman of the Parish Council of the St. Thomas Armenian Church in Tenafly. Mr. Bashian also served as an Officer of the Diocesan Council of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America located in New York City. He received the St. Vartan Medal from Archbishop Torkom Manoogian in 1979 and received the St. Gregory Medal in 1980, the highest award the Armenian Church can bestow upon a lay person. In his retirement, he remained active in the St. Michael's and All Angels Church located in Sanibel, FL. Before retiring in 1995, Mr. Bashian was the founder of Edward G. Bashian & Sons, one of the oldest and foremost Oriental rug importers and wholesalers in New York City and South Hackensack, N.J. Throughout his life, he was devoted to his family and church. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Friends may visit on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at St. Thomas Armenian Church located at East Clinton Ave. and Route 9W in Tenafly. The funeral service will be held on Friday 10 AM at St. Vartan Cathedral, Diocese of the Armenian Church, 630 Second Ave. at 34th St. New York. Interment Brookside Cemetery, Englewood, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Church Endowment Fund, St. Vartan Cathedral, 630 Second Ave. New York, NY 10016 or St. Michael and All Angel Church, 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL. 33957 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 432 Park Ave. South, New York, N.Y. 10016.
