Park Ridge - John P. Monaghan, Esq., age 54, of Park Ridge, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved husband of Diane (nee Varni) for 25 years. Devoted father of Brendan and Katelyn.

John is predeceased by his parents the Hon. Gerald E. and Rosemary Monaghan, and his sister Peggy. Loving brother of Gerald Monaghan, Kathleen Dwyer, Rory Hanrahan, Michael Monaghan, Anne Marie Reap, Fred Monaghan, Joseph Monaghan, Mary Ellen Murphy, Connie Gordon, Elizabeth Avery, and their families.

Dear son-in-law of Catherine and the late Nicholas Varni. Cherished brother-in-law of Karen Biondi, Barbara Connell, Sharon Vadovic, Nicholas Varni, and their families.

John was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a treasured friend to many.

John was sole practitioner of the Law Office of John P. Monaghan in Hackensack, NJ, for 30 years.

Funeral Mass 11 AM on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy R. C. Church, Park Ridge, NJ, followed by Interment in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. Visitation 4-8 PM on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Robert Spearing Funeral Home, Inc., 155 Kinderkamack Road, Park Ridge, NJ rsfhi.com. The funeral mass will be livestreamed at urolm.org.

John was a good friend since the first day we met freshman year of college. He was a joy to be around with an infectious laugh. So many great memories together from college outings, rec sports games, road trips to the lake house, up until a few years ago meeting him and Brendan at Universal during the college visit tour. Diane, Brendan and Katelyn, you were loved dearly by John. I will truly miss my dear friend. Prayers and love for all of you.

Where do I begin? John was the light of so many lives for one thing. From the moment he was born all of us at Holy Name Hospital, School of Nursing (in his sister Rory's class rejoiced when he was born! He was our class mascot! We all adored him-and Rory, well she always brought to school dressed like Mr. GQ junior! Plaids were a major influence back in the day. All of us loved him then and will continue love him and all the precious Monaghan family who ALWAYS had room for any hungry nursing student, whom they welcomed with opened arms-anytime, anywhere. We all love you and are so deeply saddened at this time, more than any words can express. We send our deepest condolences and so much love!

Although I only met John one time his personality drew you towards him, with this certain ability to connect with you, whether talking about his family, the soft but knowledgeable explaining of legal matters, how he taught at college, it made me feel so comfortable, and I felt he was very trustworthy.
