Robert Boas Obituary

Robert Alfred Boas

Robert Alfred Boas, 96, born June 27, 1921, died February 4, 2018. Born in Paris, France, he emigrated with his parents Rene and Andree "Daisy" to New York City on October 14, 1940. A US Army WWII veteran, he served from 1943 to 1946 as an interpreter stationed at S.H.A.E.F headquarters and was granted US citizenship in 1944. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, Army Good conduct, and WWII victory medals for his service. After WWII, he was employed as an engineer for Curtiss-Wright and later as a telecommunications manager for RCA Records and BMG Entertainment. He retired in 1986 and continued consulting for BMG until the late '90s. Robert was an avid skier and was an instructor with Olympia Ski tours in the 1960s. He assisted in planning trips for the Milnes School Cub Scouts troop. He enjoyed playing tennis into his 70s and swimming at the municipal pool in Fair Lawn and the Y.M.C.A. Robert was membership chairman and 2nd Vice President for the Fair Lawn Republican Club. He also edited the Club newsletter. He was a member of Toastmasters International for many years. He volunteered with AARP to assist senior citizens in submitting their taxes. He also worked at the ballots for the board of elections. Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elisabeth; his sister, Marie-Claire; his son Fred, daughter Nancy and three grandchildren. He passed away at home surrounded by his family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the James A. McFaul Environmental Center. A Celebration of Life is planned for sometime in the near future.

It's been a little over 2 weeks since you passed, and I'm just getting a handle on it. It's very surreal, and I find myself thinking about you, and smiling. You lived a good long life, and I am proud that you were here as long as you wer. I miss you and I love you always
