Vivian Dashcund Obituary



DASHCUND
Vivian Marie (nee Madson), of Closter, New Jersey passed away Friday, March 21st at the Christian Healthcare Center in Wyckoff, New Jersey.
Born September 13th, 1919 in Bode, Iowa, and raised in Princeton, Minnesota she was the eldest of seven children. She received a nursing degree and served as an Army nurse during World War II. Vivian was married in uniform to Nicholas Dashcund in 1944. They started their family together in Chicago, Illinois, and in 1952 moved to New Jersey where she lived for the next 61 years. Vivian was a faithful member at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Closter, New Jersey. She served as a Sunday School teacher, was a member of the Quilting Group, Ladies Aid, and sang in the Choir until she was 92. She worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 25 years and for the Pascack/Rivervale Stroke Support group for 17 years. She never had a driver's license, and was known for walking everywhere.
Vivian was predeceased by: her beloved husband, Nicholas Dashcund, parents Rev. Norman and Elsie Madson, sister Gudrun, brother Juul. Vivian is survived by: her siblings Rev. Paul, Naomi Petersen and husband Rev. Wilhelm, Rev. Norman and wife Amanda, Andrew and wife Margaret, sister-in-law Clarice, brother-in-law Rev. John Moldstad, her loving children: Naomi McCarty, Camilla Dashcund, David and wife Nancy, Jim and Ginny Kaayser, Ed and wife Susan, Anne Marie Bodnar and husband Tom, Julie Collins and husband Dave. Vivian will be missed by her cherished grandchildren: Nicole Horvath and husband Pete, Rachel McCarty, Daniel Collins, Kelly Collins, Meagan Dashcund, great-grandchild Gillian Horvath. She was also the beloved aunt to many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday March 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Moritz Funeral Home, 348 Closter Dock Road in Closter, New Jersey, 07624. A funeral service is planned for Monday 10:30 AM March 24th, 2014 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 171 Closter Dock Road, in Closter, New Jersey, 07624. Interment will follow at Tappan Cemetery in Tappan, New York.
Donations may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
