Francis Brennan Obituary

Francis W. "Boomer" Brennan 1940 - 2015 UNCASVILLE - Francis W. "Boomer" Brennan, 74, of Hillcrest Dr, died on Sunday, August 16, 2015. Born on Nov. 13, 1940 he was the son of the late Francis Joseph and Rita Geraldine (Ethier) Brennan. He grew up in Norwich and attended Norwich Free Academy. From 1957 to 1961 he honorably served with the United States Marine Corps, and as a testament to the adage, "Once a Marine, always a Marine", he proudly celebrated the Marine Corps birthday onNov 10 each year. He was a Norwich firefighter for more than 20 years until his retirement at which time he was employed by the State of Connecticut as a corrections officer from which he also retired in 2007. Boomer was a kind, generous person with a great sense of humor. He would make you laugh, most of the time without even trying, and always left you with a smile on your face. He was a New York Yankees fan and a true Irishman. He loved to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and often flew back from St. Petersburg, Florida where he and his wife spent winters, just to celebrate the holiday with his family. He also loved the game of golf. As much as he enjoyed playing, it was an even greater joy for him to watch his grandson Joey compete in tournaments. He was a loving husband to Dee Anne, a lifelong friend to many, but most of all, a proud and loving father and grandfather. His grandchildren meant the world to him. He adored each of them and treasured spending time with them. He will be sadly missed but forever loved by everyone who knew him. In addition to his wife Dee Anne (Sirpenski) Brennan, he is survived by two children, Kelly Barile and husband Joe, and Bill Brennan and partner Nolan Zimmerman; three step-children, Melynda Guillet and husband Mike, Kerri Fradette and husband Greg, and Roy Glandis. He will forever be loved and cherished by his grandchildren, Joey and Laura Barile, Carter and Avery Fradette, and Mika and Maddox Guillet. He is also survived by a brother Richard Brennan and wife Donna; sister Geraldine Pizzo; brother-in-law Daniel Winchester; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Sandra Winchester; granddaughter Mackenzie Guillet; nephew Capt. Daniel Winchester, Jr.; and brother-in-law Walter Pizzo. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 12:00 pm at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 181 Elizabeth St, Norwich, meeting directly at church with presentation of military honors following the Mass. A private burial will be held at a later date. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Rd, Uncasville. Donations in his memory may be made to the NFA Foundation, 321 Broadway, which will be designated to the Capt. Daniel Winchester, Jr. Memorial Award.

Boomer, it's been nine years since you left us and I still have no problem thinking back to our days on the fire department, you and Bob and John Donahue holding court, I never heard such heated discussion, but then we would leave and go have a cooling beverage across the street. My word I learned a lot from you guys, you were the best ! Gone to soon. Our sympathy to you Dee Anne, Kelley and Bill and Richie and Geraldine. Ray and Linda Benoit

I was just thinking of Boomer and some of the other great people whom I had the pleasure to work with while assigned to CCIN. When I transferred into CCIN as a Lieutenant I was so out of sorts having come from a male facility and Boomer and some of his co workers were some of the best teachers for this new LT! I always looked forward to having him on my shift knowing full well that there would not be any issues and if something did come up- he would be one of those that I could trust to handle it correctly. His love of family, love of life and love of the Irish were all things that so many knew of and he had so many stories of which would always bring about my smile and many laughs with him. Boomer will be so missed by so many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Boomers family and friends, may he find that rainbow shining over to Ireland and that pot of gold! RIP young man.
