Frank Busch Obituary

FRANK R. BUSCH 1956 - 2018
GALES FERRY - It is with great sorrow that we inform you of the death of Dr. Frank R. Busch, 61, of Gales Ferry, CT, from complications of the flu. Frank worked as a research chemist at Pfizer for 30 years, retiring from his position as Research Fellow in December of 2016. At Pfizer, he developed drugs for smoking cessation, rheumatoid arthritis, mental health, osteoporosis, breast cancer, and others. Frank was quick to explain he was part of a team that developed these drugs, making sure others received the credit they deserved. His role was to invent processes for developing the drugs for human consumption. In 2015, his team received the American Chemical Society's Heroes of Chemistry Award for improving the lives of people with rheumatoid arthritis. He held more than 20 patents.
Family was also important to Frank. In 1978, he married his high school sweetheart, Constance Nauman. Frank and Connie settled in Gales Ferry, Connecticut, where they raised their three children, Robert Franklin and Dorothy June (born 1982) and Paul Joseph (born 1989).
Scouting was an important part of Frank's life. Frank served as Assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 16 for more than 10 years, teaching and mentoring boys, including his sons. Christianity was another important part; Frank was an active member of Ledyard Congregational Church. In the past four years, Frank and Connie welcomed five grandchildren into their family: Dorothy's children Clara, Evan, and Rose; and Robert's children, Kyle and Jackson. Frank is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren; his younger brother, Edward Busch; his niece, Maggie O'Brien; his sister-in- law, April Nauman, and mother and father in law, June Anderson and St. Elmo Nauman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24th, at ll:00 a.m. at Ledyard Congregational Church (722 Colonel Ledyard Hwy, Ledyard, CT). In lieu of flowers, Frank has requested that donations be made either to Ledyard Congregational Church or to Boy Scout Troop 16 (same address).

When Frank wanted to give a subject some extra thought he'd say, "Let's noodle on that." He was kind enough to tolerate those of us who referred to him as Doctor Noodle. He is remembered fondly.

When Frank wanted to give some extra thought to a subject, he'd say, "Let's noodle on that." He was kind enough to put up with those of us who then called him Doctor Noodle. We will mis him. 88059

Our condolences to Frank's family. We both worked with Frank for many years and he was well respected and an all around good guy.
We saw Frank at Easten Point Beach last summer and we all talked about how we were enjoying our retirements. RIP Frank.

Condolences to the Family. I worked with Frank on at least two important medicines, he was instrumental in the development of, that made it to the market place, and continues to help many people throughout the world to this day. Though Frank will be missed, the person that he was, and the determination to "get it right" is a remaining light that will forever be a credit to him, and active in me. It is my hope that Frank experienced as much joy as he would have cared too, in the time he was here.

My sincerest condolences to Frank's family! I worked with Frank at Pfizer and will always remember him as a colleague who always made time for everyone and was so proud of his family. He was excited to start his retirement and to be able to spend time with his grandchildren. My very best to his family as you navigate this difficult time.

I am so saddened to hear of Frank's passing. I worked with him at Pfizer on his last project leading to his retirement. As someone early on in my career I was thankful for Frank's guidance, mentorship, and most of all friendly nature. He was always willing to help. I hope you find comfort in all of your wonderful memories with him. Wishing you all light and love in the days to come.
With my deepest sympathies,
