Royce Norman Obituary

Royce E. Norman, 69, passed from this world to heaven on Jan. 19, 2022, after a sudden illness while in Phoenix, Arizona. Royce was the youngest son of Edward "S" Norman and Joy Marie (Curtis) Norman. He was born in Heber City, Utah, on Dec. 15, 1952, and lived in several different places during his childhood years including Callaway and Arnold. He graduated from North Platte Senior High School in 1971 where he enjoyed participating in debate and was chosen to give one of the commencement speeches for his graduating class. Royce went on to study finance/business at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he later studied law, graduating in 1979 from the UNL College of Law. After receiving his law degree, he moved to North Platte where he applied his craft by working/partnering with Kelley, Scritsmier, Moore and Bryne Law Offices. Later, he was a founding partner of Norman, Paloucek and Herman Law Offices. Royce was a respected trial attorney specializing in personal injury cases until his retirement in December 2017 for health reasons. During his career, he served on the Mid-Plains Community College Board, the Nebraska Bar Commission, the Elder Board of Bethel Evangelical Free Church, the Nebraska Association of Trial Attorneys Board, and the Maranatha Camp Board. He was also a member of the Nebraska Bar Association and served as "Of Counsel" attorney for the law firm of Hamilton/Norman P.C. Royce loved telling a humorous story, spending time with his friends and family, playing golf, watching Husker sports, traveling and his Lord Jesus. Royce married Cynthia D. McNeal on May 25, 1974, in North Platte. To their union were born two sons, Kyle B. Norman and Ryan G. Norman. His sons and extended family were the pride of his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Lowell L. Conrad; stepbrother, Renwick Conrad; and son, Lucas Scott Norman. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; children, Kyle and Emily D. Norman and Ryan and Hannah H. Norman; his granddaughters, Kaiden, Lexie, Evelyn and Amelia; his sister, Luana and husband Frank Van Campen of Harvard; brothers, Melford and wife Millie of Garden City, Kansas, and Duane and wife Pauline of Lincoln; sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Randi and Rory Zink, Karen Miller and Jeff and Michele McNeal, all of Lincoln, and Susan and Dan Arnold of Grand Island; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorials are suggested to Maranatha Bible Camp, Maxwell. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the First Free Church, 3300 South 84th Street, Lincoln.

I had the pleasure of working with Royce as a law clerk and later as an attorney at the Kelly Scritsmier Byrne law firm back in the mid 1980s and early 1990s and later he handled a case for my sister in law. He was wonderful to work with and a great person. I enjoyed his stories about his past cases and learned much from him in the law. My sincere condolences to Cynthia and his children.

Royce and I became acquainted in law school and I recall a smart, curious, empathetic young man who obviously accomplished a lot during his lifetime. May the memories of all your years with him bring you solace and comfort during this sad time.
