Margaret Boyer Obituary

Margaret Ann (Roberts) Shaver Boyer, formerly of Maurertown, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Greenfield Senior Living, Strasburg, Virginia. Mrs. Boyer (Margy) was born April 3, 1922, in Bramwell, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Newton and Marjorie Roberts of Bramwell. Margy graduated Bramwell High School and attended Duke University, before graduating with a degree in nursing from the Medical College of Virginia. Upon graduation, Mrs. Boyer joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and served until the end of WWII.

She married Dr. John Stone (Jack) Shaver of Maurertown, Virginia. Dr. Shaver practiced medicine in Shenandoah County and for Dupont in Waynesboro, VA. They lived with their two sons in the Shaver family home on Zion Church Road, Maurertown.

After the death of Dr. Shaver in 1966, Mrs. Boyer was employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia in the Shenandoah County Department of Health as a Public Health Nurse for 22 years until her retirement in 1990. She married Mr. French Locke Boyer of Woodstock in 1975 and was widowed the second time at his passing in 1994.

At the time of her death Mrs. Boyer was the longest living member of the Woodstock Presbyterian Church and was an Honorary Life Member of Presbyterian Women of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

Her faith meant a great deal to her and was a sustaining comfort through the years. Margy enjoyed travelling to many different places in her life, but also enjoyed playing bridge and entertaining in her beautiful historic home.

Mrs. Boyer was predeceased by her two husbands, and by her two sons, John (Jay) and David. She was also pre-deceased by her brothers, William Pritchard Becker and Newton Roberts, Jr., and by one sister, Florence Becker (Toosie) McDermott. She is survived by stepsons, Locke Boyer of Charlottesville, VA, and Bob Boyer of Richmond, VA, and granddaughters Ashley and Alyssa Shaver. Mrs. Boyer is also survived by her nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McDermott of Arlington, VA, who were her faithful caretakers and guardians, and by several nieces and nephews, cousins, and good friends, Allison Nelson of Woodstock, Linda Vann of Woodstock, and Nancy Thayer of Mount Jackson.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pine Meadows, Greenfield Senior Living and Hospice of Northern Virginia for their kindness and care of Mrs. Boyer.

At Margy's request, her body has been donated for medical research and the advancement of science to the Virginia State Anatomical Program. There will be no service at this time. Dellinger Funeral Home of Woodstock is assisting in the arrangements.

So sorry for your loss. I loved Miss Margy. When I lived in Maurertown, she would often come to our house to visit and have tea and cookies. She was always a joy!
