John Warburton Obituary

Dr. John Charles Warburton (Jack) was born on October 9, 1935 to Jack and Margurite Warburton in Patterson, New Jersey. He was the oldest of four boys. Jack attended St. Joseph Catholic School, and graduated Georgetown University in Washington D.C. After his 3rd year at Cornell Medical School in New York City, he married Barbara Jeanne Gratz (known professionally in Theatre and Television as Barbara Lord). They began their married life in Paterson, New Jersey where Jack served as an intern at St. Joseph's Hospital. They were blessed with the birth of their first 2 children Patrick and Mary. Jack finished his orthopedic residency at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. This is where their third child, Lara was born. They then moved to California, where their fourth child, Megan was born. They settled in Huntington Beach for 27 years, where Jack practiced orthopedics, and was Chief of Orthopedics at 2 hospitals.
Jack had a missionary spirit, and regularly flew to Calexico Medical Clinic in Mexico where he would care for the children with debilitating medical conditions. He and the team of doctors would also fly children to Los Angeles, if surgery was required. He was a generous soul, who never turned a patient away regardless of financial means.
Jack had a rich basso voice, and sang at all of his children's weddings. His great hobbies were flying and traveling. He would take his family on month long trips in the summer to visit most of the Western States and Canada.
Jack and Barbara moved to Gold Beach, Oregon for 5 years, where he practiced at North Bend Medical Clinic. In 2000 they moved to Destin, Florida where Jack practiced at Orthopedic Associates before retiring in 2013.
Jack and Barbara have enjoyed many trips visiting their children in California and Georgia. Jack was a devoted husband, father and faithful servant to our Lord Jesus Christ and his Holy Mother. Jack and Barbara were blessed with 55 years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife; Barbara, his son, Patrick and wife, Cathy; daughter, Mary and husband, Paul Voss; daughter, Lara and husband, Chad Holland; daughter, Megan and husband, Chapman Shallcross; fourteen grandchildren, Talon, Lexie, Shane, Gabriel Warburton; Joseph, Luke, Rose, Jack and Quinn Voss, Madison and Finian Holland and Zachary, Samantha and Payton Shallcross.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Destin, Florida, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Father John Licari as celebrant. Burial will take place Monday, March 6, 2017, 1:00 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS, Pensacola, Florida with military honors. "Jack" and Barbara were wonderful lights on the West Coast. "Jack" a great physician and both of them 'my-heart'.

What a wonderful doctor this man was for me. He helped diagnose my headache issues after 20 years of others telling me to take meds. I will be forever grateful to him, his kind and caring manner. Thankful he had such a full life and wonderful family.

Dr. Warburton was my doctor for many years and going to see him was always therapeutic. He was so upbeat and positive...always had a story to tell. He was also thorough and focused in giving me a plan to help my back issues without surgery. Gotta love that! I missed him when he retired but heard he really enjoyed his free time. I am so glad our paths crossed.
